Fiamma Awning Fitting Question

Long story short, I bought a Fiamma F45 awning with the T6 roof mounting kit without fully checking the fitting details.

I don't want to make any permanent changes to the van, so I don't want to use the supplied brackets and Silkaflex to bond. I plan to add a Flat Dog expedition roof rack to the van in the next couple of weeks, and looking at solutions to mount the awning. It occurred to me that I could simply drill 3 holes in the roof rack and bolt the awning to it directly. It feels like I'm missing something obvious with this solution.

Has anyone done similar and would this be robust enough? I have some Silkaflex, so I would be happy to apply it along the bars for some extra grip. Alternatively, I could bolt the supplied flat awning mounts to the roof rack, which might give a little more flexibility in height
