V5C - Help and Advice Please

Hi,
I’m a newbie in both owning a campervan and to the VW T6 Forum. Joined 9th November 2017 and been reading some of the many postings since then and gleaned a lot of interesting information. Long may it continue!!

I have recently taken ownership of a VW T6 T28 Highline TDI Blue Motion Campervan Conversion. First registered March 2016. It has 5 belted seats. My insurance Policy is with Safeguard who insured without any hassle as the van converter was on their list of registered converters.

I was informed by the seller that it was a VW Transporter, Caravelle conversion to a campervan.

By coming across some info on the forum I have come to the conclusion that the info pertaining to my campervan on my V5C is possibly not as it should be. I am now the registered keeper of the campervan.

Can you please have a look at my attached V5C info and give me your thoughts/advice as to whether you think that the info on it is accurate or not?
  • Is ‘Light Goods Vehicle’ the correct taxation class? If not what do you think should it be?
  • Is ‘N1’ the correct vehicle category or should it be M1?
  • Anything else that doesn’t look as if it should be?

It is correct, the n1 bit can't be changed but it is now classed as a motorcaravan so it's all good.
Presumably it was a panel van not a caravelle originally.

If it was a caravelle then it would have had full factory windows 2 both per side, these have a factory tint of green. If yours yours are black then look right at the edges and we if you can see a cut linear the edges on the inside where the tint has been fitted.

Also don't the caravelle have H7 lights?

I can see nothing wrong with the V5C providing the chassis number, engine number, colour etc. match the vehicle.

A Highline Kombi will have green tint windows in the front half of the rear which 'should' have been copied for the additionals fitted in the rear but will still be N1 classification. I think if the vehicle was produced as a window van with no rear seating it would also have been N1, that was the case some years ago (2010) when I ordered one for converting. The dealer tried to register it as a diesel car until I pointed out the error of his ways!

Hi All,

Thank you very much for taking the time to reply to my posting. It is very much appreciated.

I will have a look in the daylight at the windows, also chassis number and engine number to confirm that they are the same as stated on the V5C.

Good evening all,

a.jpg Checked out the side and rear windows today and they are all black. Side windows, 2 on nearside and 2 on the offside, sliding door and another window and have justcampers.com branding and the rear barn doors have TVW tradevanwindows.co.uk branding. VIN numbers etc match what’s on the V5C and service schedule.

Am I correct in thinking that it started its life as a van and has the windows fitted as part of the conversion?

Yep I'm pretty sure caravelles don't come with barn doors.
I can't see why a conversion co would start with a caravelle they cost a lot more, and apart from the Windows all the caravelle bits get taken out for a camper.

PM me your VIN number and i will tell you exactly how it was listed by VW when manufactured but certainly looks like a converted panel van not that theres anything wrong with that

Almost 100% that’s a van. Why would they change the windows for aftermarket ones, and as already stated I’ve never seen a caravelle with barn doors.

Just reread the thread, do you have rails fitted in the floor in the rear for your seat/bed to slide up and down on ie caravelle style ?
Wondering if the original description literally meant a transporter with a caravelle style conversion into a camper ?
