New Multivan Camper base

Maybe I missed it, but I didn't see this discussed on the forum when it was announced earlier this year. VW are releasing a new Multivan 'base' vehicle for camper conversions. It has a California pop-top from factory and swivel seats but the shell is empty to allow a bespoke conversion inside. There's the usual TDI engine but also a plug-in hybrid option with 4wd.

Undoubtedly not a cheap option, but as a base vehicle for a fancy conversion, this surely takes some beating?

The proper T7 naked camper was announced a few months back. As you say, pricy, but you get to spec exactly what you want when you have yout build and it'd still likely work out less expensive than a T7 Multivan California. Even better, you don't have to put up with Ford's suspect build quality.

Were I looking today I'd seriously consider it.

Oh, it looks like the interior space in that T7/Multivan thing is compromised compared to a T6 - that really limits its usefulness probably.

EDIT - not actually sure on this, seems to be conflicting information out there...

If memory serves the LWB T7 multivan is about 1/4 less volume than a SWB T6, but most of that loss is in the height so if you're having a pop top anyway it's not a dealbreaker. Might be a bit tight though for those who's needs are currently served by the LWB T6.

However, I've had a clamber round a T7 cali' and it really didn't seem appreciably smaller than my 6.1 SWB conversion.
