Turbo Whine

Hey, I have a 2017 T6 1.9 and there is quite a whine when the turbo comes in on accelerating. Is this a characteristic of the type on engine? This is my fast van so nothing to compare with.
Many thanks Ian

You’ll need to link a video from Youtube, nobody can guess the noise you are witnessing.

I can appreciate it’s hard to answer without hearing the noise. I suppose it was more to see if it’s common with engine. I initially thought it was a belt (cam or auxiliary) too tight bits it’s definitely when turbo cuts in.

Has it always been like it (since you owned it) or has it changed?

I have had the van 18 months and first noticed when I had the window down, probably 3 months in and it’s always been there since. I feel it’s become more pronounced but I’m listening for it now!!! Van drives fine, no smoke or excessive oil usage, just the noise.

Mileage?
Gear box oil change?
Gear box oil level checked?
Does the whine pitch change when you change gear?
Whine in every gear?

60000 miles
Not since I have had it but full service history
If service had been conducted correct!!
It’s comes about as I reach maybe 1800 and then disappears when falls below like changing gear.
Every gear although harder to hear at greater speeds

In case you weren’t already aware the 5 speed gearbox isn’t very reliable. A symptom of failure is a high pitch whine, that said 60K miles isn’t much.
Gear oil renewal isn’t part of the VW scheduled servicing but I’d highly recommend doing it now and carefully testing the drained oil for metallic debris.
If there isn’t any debris the gearbox will almost certainly still be OK and the oil change will probably increase the mileage before the gearbox fails.

Thank you for your advice regards the gearbox. What oil do you recommend and what volume does it require.
