TSI - Oil leak + Timing chain

I'm after some advice..

I've a 2018 TSI 204 DSG T28, 98k miles, full service history.

Oil leak - I noticed some small oil patches underneath, I think it could be from the front crank seal. From the pictures would you agree?

  1. Does the whole engine need to come out to replace seal?
  2. Roughly how much should I expect to pay for this?

Timing Chain - The van is on 98.5k miles and chain was checked and in tolerance a year/1500 miles ago. If I'm having the seal done, should I do the chain at the same time?

I'm Upminster, Essex based. Used VW Mad for service last year, any recommendations for garages welcomed.

Thanks

My T28 TSI is also at 98,500 miles. when checking on an OBDeleven it read at -4.92 degrees on Cam Bank 1, apparently this means it is close to maximum before potentially jumping teeth, check light comes on at 5 degrees looking on line, above 4 it should be changed, if the online research is correct. I had mine checked over the last few times and was told it was ok though I am not sure, awaiting VW verdict as this is a known problem on the Gen3 EA888 engines. As for your leak there is a PCV valve that is known to fail which increases crankcase pressure which could be related to any leaks.

Definitely check crankcase pressure and potential PCV failure before replacing crankshaft seals.
The whole engine needs a thorough degreasing in order to monitor the source of the leak.
