TPMS spurious alerts after tyre change

Hi. I’ve recently changed my tyres from 215/60R17 to 235/55R17 (Davenport alloys) on my T6 67plate 102PS Kombi. The circumference change is minimal (2159mm to 2149mm), I’ve pumped them up to the new (lower) PSI as per the door sticker and reset the TPMS via the setting on the instrument cluster. However, I’m getting spurious loss of pressure alerts from the NSF or OSR wheels. The tyres are not loosing pressure and this only happens when I’ve been driving for about 30 mins. I check the pressures and reset the TPMS every time. I thought the TPMS works via the ABS sensors detecting a tyre of lower circumference and hence it being a puncture. It’s been doing it for about 2 months now. Am I missing something - as setting in the instrument cluster, VCDS needing coding? Van isn’t displaying any fault codes and no other issues as far as I know. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Please post a picture of the alert.

Please post a full VCDS Auto-Scan.

Factory installed?
Today it’s the NSF but it’s also comes up as the OSR. Yep OEM standard fit. I don’t have access to VCDS but no other warning lights come on or error messages displayed, other than the amber tyre pressure warning light. Thanks

Ahhh... I misunderstood. I'm expecting there is a fault code registered in ABS controller for the pressure "loss", possibly others...
  • Possibly a failing wheel speed sensor
  • Faulty tyre, shock absorber, wheel bearing,...

I occasionally get an alert after hitting a bump, I run 17” Cargo Vectors (commercial) at 58psi. From a previous puncture it takes a 20% pressure reduction to trigger the alert.
Try increasing the pressure to the high side of the band, the tyre will be stiffer. Are they van tyres?

Thanks - previous tyre was really hard commercial tyre on 215/60R17 but swapped to Michelin Cross Climate 3 on 235/55R17 but still 103 rated. Running at 48PSI as per door sticker

Thanks I’ll see if I can get it looked at. Van never had issues before but the warning lights came on on way home from garage after getting tyres swapped and been doing it intermittently since. Seems like they might be related

I had the same problem due to one tyre being a few mm bigger than the other on the rear axle. I was running 205/65 R16 tyres and after driving 100mls I would get a tyre pressure warning even though the pressures were correct. The problem went away when I fitted two new tyres to the rear axle. I couldn't believe such a small difference could cause the spurious warnings. I had considered removing the TPMS coding i had done as it was such a pain.

After 2,000mls on the new tyres I had not had a re occurrence of warnings. I the summer i changed to Devonports with 235/55 R17 and have not had any problems in 2,500mls.

Can you check and post the tread depth for all 4 tyres and their location?

Brand new tyres on all 4 wheels (maybe 300 miles worn) - Michelin Cross Climate 3 - so idenctical circumferences all round but been doing it since new tyres fitted

I had 2 tyres but one had 8.5mm tread the other had 7.5mm. Changing the tyres fixed the problem. Having worked on vw cars and vans for years I couldn't understand why such a minor difference could cause the problem. I'm just happy its fixed as its a real pain. Good luck with sorting it out, I'll continue to watch the thread to see what fixes it.👍
