TPMS - gone from System after low main 12V battery

Hi

Can someone please share opinion on this issue wit TPMS ?

2015 VW T5.1 with Indirect TPMS system that was working fine before

  • In December car had low battery as it was not used in winter and from that time TPMS light came ON
  • All Tyres have correct pressure but the error on Dash comes ON right after turning key stating FAULT: TYRE LOSS INDICATOR CURRENTLY NOT AVAIALBLE and TPMS symbol keeps flashing
  • It can's be reset with new tyre pressure and says TYRE PRESSUER NOT STORED

  • VCDS is showing error 03159 TP<S FUNCTIONALITY IN ESP 000 --- INTERMINENT
  • Also the date is messed up and it showing DATE: 2063.14.31 ?????

  • Error can't be cleared in CLEAR CODES section
  • I can clear the error in ABS via BASIC SETTINGS channel 042 where you can clear EPROM memory. But this doesn't solve the issue
  • Also when I go to ABS module and check LONG CODING, Byte 15 (that normally serves TPMS) is not even there ????
  • Or this car has only 14 Bytes and TPMS is controlled elsewhere ?

Are my assumptions correct that due to low voltage system has ''corrupted'' and perhaps needs re-flash in ABS module that only VW dealer can do ?

  • I have tried to look in the CAN GATEWAY installation list and the 65 - TYRE PRESSURE box is not checked?

However if I do check in 65 - TYRE PRESSURE, problem still persist, no additional Byte in the ABS long Coding and also throws additional 3x errors in INSTRUMENTS, CAN and TYRE PRESSURE ( I guess this has to be checked only if you have direct TPMS ?

Please let me know your thoughts. Thank you all.

You do not have module 65 that is for direct TPMS which you do not have
Please revert any changes you have made, reset any errors then post a full vcds autoscan

Yes I put changes back (65 unchecked in CAN). But problem persists. There are no any other errors in the System (disregard AUTO HVAC as that's seat heating I know about).

Don’t know if you’ve managed to get this issue sorted out, I’d like to know asit sounds like exactly the issue I’ve got with my friends 5.1 and he had a flat battery as well

Hi Stinky or Valdi - this is literally the same issue I have with my 5.1. Decided to start last week when the battery sadly went flat. If you find a solution please let me know. Battery went flat, and now TPMS issues since. Cannot store.

Hey, did you ever sort out a solution to this? I've tried a few methods but nothing has worked.

Please drop a message on here if you do find out a solution. I'll have mine at the garage soon and also see if they can figure out a trick. So annoying as before the main battery went flat. The van had no issues. Now it's got a light that won't turn off that will stop it getting through an MOT. @Valdi - did you work out a solution?

Hi Guys. My Caravelle is with VW Dealer and it's 3weeks now. It looks like they are lost and suggesting it's Dashboard. This is very unlikely to be honest. I give them few more days but 3 weeks is pretty long time to diagnose fault. I personally think that the data in ABS module got corrupted due to low voltage.

I think I would try first to code in different Long Coding code. Can anyone share long coding code from ABS unit that has indirect TPMS ? If that will not work I will try to get ABS unit and adapt to my VAN and hopefully that will help. Can you check your Long Coding against mine ? (2nd picture).

I let you know what VW dealer will come up with, but if there is no solution from them apart to change dashboard, I will try changing ABS module.

I have also found below. Scenario C in my case:

These are the changes to activate indirect TPMS (at least for a T6.1):
Did you try and "uninstalling" it by doing the reverse of installing it?

Really appreciate the update! Completely agree on the theory the ABS module got corrupted when the battery went flat. Any idea how much it will cost to change the ABS module? I'm hoping when I get around to it this might clear this error.

Thanks for the update. Seems to prove it’s not just a simple fault. Hopefully you can find a fix that isn’t stupidly expensive.

Please post full VCDS Auto-Scan.

Perhaps you could try to change ABS byte 12 value BA to EA to see if it makes a different fault. Please post a fresh VCDS Auto-Scan after the change.

Same fault here, no ability to reset TPMS in MFD it just says Tire Pressure cannot be stored, Caravelle T5.1 2015,

faults in VCDS

Address 03 - ABS Brakes

02214 - tyre pressure warning
015 - cannot be reset at this time

03159 - TPMS Functionality in ESP
000 - -

everything was fine no flat battery just decided to throw this up this morning.

interested to see if anyone finds an answer, as I first checked group 1 thinking it could be a wheel speed sensor issue but all read identical no missing values or speed variance.

My long code Caravelle 2015 indirect TPMS

You can't just paste someone else's ABS long coding onto your van. The VIN number is encoded as part of the long coding so you'd have to know which bytes were for this and which are for programming.

It's DONE !

So my VAN was with VW Dealership for 4 weeks. They couldn't simply identify issues as they ''haven't seen such problem before''. Go figure. From day 1 I was asking them to update ABS module, but seems like thy were thinking this is rather dashboard issue . Yesterday I visited them again and asking them to pretend there is new ABS unit mounted on the vehicle and they need to code that in. I literally forced them to perform update. 2hrs later they called me - IT'S WORKING. When I went back they said they will not charge me £140+VAT for the diagnostic as they couldn't identify the problem, they just charged me £192 for software update to ABS module. All is working fine now.
