The dreaded flashing coil light, G580

Morning all,
I know there are some similar post but here goes with mine. Travelling in France we get the flashing coil and engine management light and no stop start, Van lacks power but not in a limp mode, Vehicle is currently with a VW specialist and this is what’s been found so far, G580 position sender 2 plus P246300, they’ve checked the wiring to the sender which they tell me is fine, they are also trying to find why they can’t carry out a force regen, T6 2018, 20,000 miles 204 auto, not used much but mostly motorways.

It might help if you are clear on what sort of replies you are after?

For instance are you just trying to get home or seeking a longer term resolution?
 
While it’s still in the garage with what feels like they could be doing some head scratching I thought there maybe someone that might be able to shed some light so I can go back with the information, After reading a lot more from this forum I have seen other codes from the paper work which might help, they are as follows P22D400, P22D500, P256400 boost pressure to small, P246300, the paperwork is in a foreign language,
 
If you have a full code read it's best to post all the information you have - what might not be significant to you might be to someone else.

Hmm... none of the codes refer to G580 (position sender 2 for charge pressure positioner) , instead they point to the sender G581 (position sender for charge pressure positioner). The CXEB engine (204) has them both on-board.

P22D4 00 - Position Sensor for Turbo Inlet Valve​
P22D5 00 - Position Sensor for Turbo Inlet Valve, Implausible Signal​
P2564 00 - Turbocharger Boost Control Position Sensor Circuit, Signal too Low​

why they can’t carry out a force regen,
If the faults above are "active" the ECU probably doesn't allow DPF regen as can't control the turbos OR the soot level is beyond safe level for the regen - the code alone doesn't tell that - would need to dig a bit deeper into engine data.
P2463 00 - Particle Filter, Excessive Soot Accumulation​
 
If you have a full code read it's best to post all the information you have - what might not be significant to you might be to someone else.

Thanks for your reply roadtripper but the paper work I have is all in Greek! They are back open Monday when I will ask them to show the information in English which I will post.

Hi people,
The chap looking into the issues with my Cali sent me these screen shots if anyone has some advice/help,
As there was a low voltage mentioned on one of them he said the van was slow to start and maybe change the battery as it mostly likely is the original 2018 battery - I haven’t changed it in my ownership just over 2 years. He also said there is new fault code which wasn’t there before the P0641-P0651, any ideas please.

If your battery is old and showing signs of dropping capacity then I'd always recommend starting with a know healthy battery if you are having electrical weirdness.

You seem to have a lot of wiring or data communication faults cropping up, those could be due to electronics dropping out under low voltage conditions. They might not be your root problem but they may be clouding the diagnostics.

You said start/stop was unavailable, has it been working normally until this point as that's usually a good indication of overall electrical health?

Thanks Roadtripper, from memory I think yes but I do remember at the euro tunnel it might have said unavailable then our problems with the coil light was about 300 miles after that, but interestingly when we got to our first stop and while on hook up the two front courtesy lights dimmed and went off on the odd occasion ( are these run from the starter battery?) at this point I also noticed the radio would say it was shutting down soon after ignition was turned off.
So I’ll ask them to try a new battery and see where we go from there. Thanks again
 
All of the "car" electronics that work off of the ignition work from the starter battery.

It's not a good idea to use these systems without the engine running. In most straightforward leisure systems nothing will charger the starter while on EHU - so all the usage of the normal courtesy lights, dash radio, power doors etc drains the starter.
