The Camper Hub Ltd, Dudley

unfortunately we are in Scotland and they are in Dudley, though my stepson lives in Hereford so could likely visit on our behalf (that was the plan for the other one they had for sale). the story with the van they are offering is that the vans were leased but the company went into liquidation and they bought them through an auction. Tho surely if leased they would just have gone back to the leasing company? 🤔 For me something doesn't quite add up but wondered if I was being over cautious - TBH I thought once we got the finance buying a camper would be the easy bit!
Hi, first time poster and campervan newbie here. Anyone bought a van or had any dealing with The Camper Hub Ltd in Dudley? They only seem to have a Facebook presence, no website however good reviews on FB (if they can be believed?). We enquired about a camper they put on FB which they have now taken a deposit on, however said they have another one 'in development' and that for a 50% deposit we can customise it to our spec. I appreciate the effort that a customizer is going to and the upfront investment but 50% of £26-£27k seems a bit steep and a risk. Oh also their vans don't have a service history as they buy from auctions (which is probably reflected in the price) but they do the cam belt and water pump prior to sale. Is it worth the risk? Thanks for any advice! :)
HI, I am currently in the same position as with this company. I spoke to them yesterday and they said there was a lot of interest in the van I like (baby blue and white). Said if I paid 50% they would save it for me. I tried to pay the 13,000 yesterday afternoon but my bank stopped the payment and told me to call their fraud dept. I did, she advised me against it. I messaged them back and he said that happens a lot because they sell on facebook.

Hi, that's interesting as when I spoke to them yesterday they said someone from Scotland had bought it! Can you keep me up to date how you get on with them? good luck, hope it all goes well! @kk!

Surely there's more red flags with this company than can be seen at a Russian military parade? Walk away folks - there's lots of reputable sellers selling gazillions of other vans.

IMO if you are in Scotland you’ll need to be prepared to travel to view vans and I certainly wouldn’t limit it to a specific colour unless you’re not in a hurry.
I’d probably avoid two colour vans as there are few converters who tart up low spec ex builders vans and repairing lower body damage with a pastel colour instead of plain old white costs them the same but seems to attract more buyers.

Hi all,

I have been made aware of this post. This is mine and my friends business and I can assure you we are fully legit.

Before you start making ‘red flag’ comments , your more than welcome to come and visit us at Unit 8 Alexandra Industrial estate DY4 9SJ and see our thriving business for yourself .. we have over 10 consistent trade customers and plenty of private work in .. currently 22 vans in our work shop ..

As far as the 50% deposit . That is business . This is a custom build, why would we risk losing out on money? If you’re not comfortable with it ,that’s absolutely fine, that van just wasn’t meant to be for you. We have plenty customers that put 50% deposit down without batting an eye lid, and they are over the moon with the finished product. Check our reviews.

Thanks 👋🏼

It’s better to ask someone that has actually seen us rather than these people that haven’t .. these people havnt even heard of us . That doesn’t mean we aren’t genuine ..

Perhaps join the Forum as a Trade member as plenty of reputable companies do. It certainly wouldn't do your business any harm. We are lucky to have some great companies on here if you want to have a look and possibly make connections going forward.

I think I will bud, makes sense 👍🏼

50% deposit ?
I'd walk on that
I paid 50% in advance on a conversion with a reputable converter in 2018 plus 25% at 75% completion and the final 25% on collection.
Those were the T&C and frankly if it were my business I’d want the same.
If you are a small business with a 6 month backlog you can pick and choose the customers as much as the customers can pick and choose the vendors.

@DXX my understanding is the van is finished and ready to go so the deposit is just a 'holding' deposit. A 'nonrefundable' small amount should be sufficient for both parties under those circumstances.

I agree if your forming a relationship with a convertor from scratch for a new build, then a larger amount is required

Hi Jacknorth

All I’d say is there are some terrible converters out there who some of us sadly have fallen victim to - me being one even though I thought I’d been diligent enough checking reviews etc. So all people can do is highlight potential red flags as they see them.

I’m not accusing you of anything, just pointing out why people can tend to err on the side of caution. Joining here as a trader is a great suggestion, there are a lot of potential customers on this forum who would welcome converters with a good reputation.

In this case it was only a 50% deposit for a ‘ready to go’ van as the customer didn’t know when they were able to collect the vehicle (a week plus) and we had a lot of interest on it. I didn’t want to shoot myself in the foot and be let down afterwards when the vehicle could of potentially been sold in the meantime 👍🏼 completely get what your saying though, that’s just how we work. Maybe it could be different in future 👍🏼

On another note.. we only operate through Facebook as it’s an easy way to interact with our customers, always have done and always will. We used to have a website. It’s just hassle to update so we don’t bother now. If any of you would like to go over to our Facebook and have a look it’s Camper Hub Ltd .. would appreciate a follow and would appreciate I may have put some minds at ease when you see our work 🙌🏽 thank you

I couldn't see your actual company details on the FB page but maybe I missed them. If they're not there though, might be worth adding. I certainly wouldn't be forking out a 50% deposit without knowing what legal entity I was even giving the money to.

All the details are on there 👍🏼

No relation to Camper Hub Ltd from Taunton that went out of business in 2017 I take it. I'd make that clear from the outset, as quite a few us do very deep due diligence

Zero relation. 👍🏼

It’s not something you should really have to clarify. Easy enough to type in camper hub Ltd on companies house and find out it’s not the same place. Or even just give us a call and speak to us or organise to come down. Most serious buyers come down to us first and take a look. Can’t go wrong then 👍🏼

You havn’t got a clue
 So you disagree that a bank's fraud department advising against transacting with a business should be viewed as a red flag? IMO, that's the very definition of a red flag - some may disagree, but then some fall victim to scams.

Hiya, would really appreciate it if you took this original thread down if possible. I didn't get chance to reply until late in the feed and for anyone who starts reading this thread and doesn't read until the end may get the wrong impression of us over the first few comments and be quick to assume. Can be quite damaging. Thanks
