Cleaning the van earlier and I noticed what looks like body coloured tape applied just in front of the rear wheel arches. It is the same on both sides and both pieces look like they have been specially cut to be placed where they are. Any ideas what the tape is and/or for? Do we all have similar?

I've always thought it was to stop stone chips on that lower edge of the panel. Whatever numpty fitted mine in the factory left bubbles in it

the tube that fitted mine needs to visit specsavers! I'm getting a new one fitted.......it's beginning to trap dirt under the leading edge so they can damn well change it!!!!!!

It is just for some protection as @HHO says but if you have side bars fitted would they provide some protection for the wheel arch ?

They were on my T5 also. They are definitely to stop stone chips. If you had side bars then it would stop some chips, but do not remove as you would be in a pickle as they do help stop a lot if Tarmac and stone.

I remove them as they do hold in water and rust on the edges from some chips just outside the tape.

Mine were removed to fit the vans livery however have seen a fair few customers cars with that issue. Not limited to t5s.
