Tailgate standoff not working!

Okay so I bought one of these tailgate stand-offs online are they not all equal? Cause I just can’t get this one to Work did get it to latch once and then I couldn’t get the bloody thing out as on our T6 .1 when the tailgate shuts the latch that I latches into who’s inwards and this stand-off seems to stop it doing that so when you unlatch it the latch doesn’t move out so you can’t get the stand-off out if that makes sense. Have I just bought a shitty one!

Got mine from here, a little more money, but works fine with my 6.1 soft close every time. Just have to slow and sure when closing.

I’ve got one I use on the left (manual) barn door - often its a struggle to get slotted into the bracket and out again, but the odd time its easy. I just have to be patient when its being awkward!

I was thinking I might put a small radius on the square edges where its been stamped out.

Hi All...we have used the bandrup air latch.....does work with power tailgate ...but we’ve got power latching as well ..it’s a bit stop/start to get it to locate... but once you get over the horrible feeling that it’s gonna damage the van...it’s ok :eek: It’s damaged the paint on my tailgate...

For some reason the (my) RHS standoff works first time every time and the LHS standoff takes 4 or 5 attempts.

I always find it easy to latch the door on once its installed. With a barn door just peek in the gap to watch if the door aligns with the bracket. It’s hooking the stand off into the striker plate thats a PITA!

That said I can understand why aligning the bracket is a problem with a tailgate! I’d work out where it needs to be placed and mark the trim in some way so its repeatable.

I also bought a cheaper one...it works well as long as you make sure it is lined up perfectly and you close gently..no slamming.

Yes. For my barn door I have the type as per the OPs photograph and, as you say, it’s doable as you can peek/get your arm in while stood up.

For the car, with it’s tailgate, I have the Brandup style for its added length and (on the one I have at least) the ability to cinch down the threaded barrel onto the striker bar to keep things in place. As a design I find the Brandup style better but it would probably be overkill for barn door vehicles and possibly too long. If the standoff is too long the second barn door would be able to be opened I think?
