T6 lower steering column cover removal

Hi,

2018 Caravelle T6

I got the top cover off easily once I got a trim tool from Amazon!

I have the 3 screws holding the bottom cover removed but I cannot see how to remove the bottom cover without removing the steering wheel which I don't want to do.

The angled brackets attached to the bottom cover with the top screws removed cannot be moved to allow the bottom cover to drop as far as I can see.

The only way that I can see is by removing the steering wheel to allow the cover and the 2 brackets to move towards the rear of the vehicle and then drop down clear of the column.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanking you in anticipation,

Desmond Brown

No, I didn’t get any help and I didn’t relish taking the steering wheel off with the airbag connections etc. So as a last resort I broke off the little brackets and it dropped down easily. I will have to fabricate replacement brackets perhaps 3-D printed ones to secure it when back on.
I didn’t need a new ignition switch! The new battery fitted on Good Friday was faulty!!!

Ah no worries, my wheel needs to come off. I was just hoping I could do some of the prep work beforehand and leave the vehicle useable in between the work and work days ha. Cheers
