T6 Highline PV to camper van

Hello all,

I have been lurking around this and the VWT5 site for a while now whilst the wife and I deliberated over what to buy...
Well, I'm glad to say that we've just bought a 2015 VW T6 Highline. We are looking to convert it to a camper van and do as much of the work ourselves.

Hoping to get along to some VW shows again soon so we can see bodykits / kitchens / pop-top roofs in the flesh before committing to a converter.

Glad to see that there's plenty of know-how on the forum!

I'm just about finished doing exactly the same with pretty much exactly the same van. So far I have done it all myself but I can't afford a poptop just yet but that is one job I shall be leaving to a professional. If nothing else it will be a lot of fun converting it

@Colinlp I've just had a look at your threads and see you are / were looking at the HiLo roofs - I'm after a low-profile roof too, but have only seen HiLo and LowLife offerings, and their prices make the eyes water!

Tell me about it!! Never mind a good poptop is an investment and worth every penny you spend to get the right one. Don't forget to visit the fitters too, I'm glad I did as you would have read

Mmm, swapping barn doors for a tailgate may be a bit of a pain, due to having to put new hinges into the roof and then you'll have to have some more body work done to fill in the recesses where the current side mounted hinges are located. Could be quite costly. You could leave the old hinge recesses there, but then it'd look really untidy in my opinion, and would alsways be obvious what had been done.

Well, it’s only 6 months late but the van has now been dropped off to XtremeVan for its HiLo. Cannot wait to get it back

It’s also had a tailgate transplant, but that’s a story for another day - cheers for the pointers all, espesh @Pauly
