T6.1 vs T6 let battle commence

Afternoon folks

First post so be gentle with me. I went to view two transporters last night. Dealer sale first was a 2021 manual 5 speed T6.1 with around 70,000mls in white. A 110bhp Highline panel van converted to a Kombi. It had been carpeted and lowered 40mm. It had AC, auto lights and adaptive cruise. And in very nice condition. The 2nd was a 2021 T6 Highline in a kind of metallic grey, 150bhp 6 speed manual with 74,000mls. Again a panel van converted to a kombi with some carpeting in the rear. Spec wise it had AC and auto lights. I would describe it as very good condition. Both had barn doors.

The T6.1 drove well it felt quite sprightly at first, but on a fast dual carriageway it felt wanting and had a kind of urgent revvy feel about it. The T6 in comparison just flew and felt very relaxed even in 5th with a gear to go. And it somehow seemed more refined. Suffice to say I preferred the T6.

The T6 had clearly been used by a builder/tradesman previously as there was some evidence of that. With the barn doors quite scratched on the inside with some dents. Rest of the bodywork was very good with minor marks here and there. It drove well but it has not had a cambelt change and the dealer was quoting the VW schedule of 130,000mls and no time limit. So he is asking £25k for both and currently not listening to offers. What do you people think.

Its a buyers market pal, suck it up ?

Happy to be corrected, but I thought the 6.1 was released in 2019 so both would be T6.1?

I’d prefer the 6 speed box :)

So the 6 speed 150bhp grey van was a a 69 plate and had the older dash and headlights.

But my mistake the white van was a 20 plate T6.1.

So I also prefer the 6 speed, but what I should have asked is what do you the learned and more experienced members of the forum think of the pricing ?
So neither were 2021 models as per your first post. 😂

Anyway, more importantly, we’re talking similar age vans with similar mileage. White is T6.1 but 110bhp 5 speed and Grey is T6 with 150bhp and 6 speed.

For me, looks wise and spec, it would be the T6 but I have never driven a T6.1 to compare in that respect. I wouldn’t have thought the 110 T6.1 was as nice to drive as the 150 T6 though.

I personally wanted, and bought, a T6 150 as that was primary on my want list and am definitely not disappointed.

Try them both, see what you think.

Personally I couldn't tell much different betwixt 110 and 150, just slightly different shades of slow, but engines aside the 6.1 has a nicer, slightly more car like feel on the move and lighter steering.

Oh crap sorry you are 100% correct. Grey van was a 69 plate T6 150bhp, the white one was a 2020 T6.1 110bhp. I just felt the pricing was strong.

I did and preferred the T6 150bhp, but I get that I've read people prefer the T6 over the T6.1

So I’ve had 2 T6 and now a 6.1 I’ve always thought the 6 felt a more well built van if I’m honest.
As to which drives better the 6.1 is a better driving experience for me but saying that maybe the fact it’s a high spec with all the creature comforts my 6’s didn’t have.
The 6.1 has lighter steering but again I don’t mind a heavy steering wheel.
The 150 6 speed is a great engine
What’s the service history like on both?
25k is strong money to be honest

Its difficult to judge build "quality", however one defines that, with VW duento the way they cheaply engineers items to give an illusion of quality.

Doors tuned to sound a certain way when they close, switchgear that feels positive in operation, etc, is engineered to give an impression of quality without spending the money required to genuinely deliver that commodity. In short, they cheat.

Apart from confusing the hell out of everybody with my first post. And probably getting peoples back up. Not intentional I promise, just some f***wittery at large on my part. I genuinely appreciate those who have taken the time to reply.

Im now thinking I will look at the T6 from 2016, I think that was when they began up until 2019. And go with condition first then mileage.

Don’t rush there’s plenty out there and knuckle down your ideal specs to start what you wouldn’t like to be without etc
For me would be min
140/150 engine/Highline with a tailgate as a basic must

I’m with others on the pricing - sounds like a starter for offers so if they aren’t taking offers then look around for a bit.

Also having a five speed I’d make sure I get 6 next time. Long motorway trips and the noise from the increased revs gets quite tiring.

Not a problem for me at legal velocities, although 18s helpfully raises the gearing noticeably.
