T6.1 Lane assist/Traffic sign recog. camera after windscreen replacement

That is EXACTLY the same situation/scenario & converations I had with mine.

Yes mine was messy/costly/time-consuming for me & my insurer, who paid out for a lot of VW time on top of the glass replacement, & me personally funding a ADAS replacement camera for VW diagnostic purposes.

Autoglass are a hateful Co. to deal with IMO, 'IF' you can get through to a human who actually knows what they are talking about rather than the usual CS fob-off
Time will tell I guess. Just waiting for a call back from an outside ADAS company to see if they can help...
Just to clarify, my company was Auto Windscreens NOT AutoGlass
 
I really feel for you guys.

Your cases are just proving the incompetence of your local suppliers( or maybe only individuals doing the work).

As a positive example I can say that I had windscreen replaced on my MQB Tiguan here in Ireland. The job was done locally in Co. Kildare in a small shed.
Everything done by Autoglass, one guy did screen replacement and the other one got static calibration done.
Whole process took approximately 2 hours and my Lane Assist and all associated systems work perfectly since then.

Insurance covered the whole cost €391.58 = £343.00

I think (as does @Dav-Tec who did a lot of diagnosis work for me with ODIS & VCDS to fight/badger both Autoglass & various VW dealers) that although T6.1 systems are based on the MQB platforms as the Tiguan is, there are nuances in them such as some ‘Polo bits’ & FW/SW.

Some things, especially on earlier T6.1 builds have been improved in more recent builds, both HW & especially the SW communication between modules with FW updates

MIB3-5F’s have 3 different incremental HW versions from memory & several different FW versions.

Also there a 3 versions of ADAS camera HW

That is absolutely correct but VAG windscreen camera calibration requires the same procedure on MQB as it was on old PQ platform so I will continue to claim the incompetence element.

I don't dispute there is some incompetence at play, but I think lack of specific training/understanding is the issue.
Several very intelligent & tech savvy people have struggled with it on mine with almost zero help form VW Uk & Germany, & finding where to look elswhere for info & support.

All parties (Glass co's & VW dealer franchises) just want a quick job to invoice & turn around, when this doesn't happen they don't want to know unless you give them an endless guaranteed ££££ budget.

This is a great thread and one that many members, given the state of the roads, wilI find a great resource .....

Background..... I am running a MY2021 Cali 6.1, its got 18K miles on the clock The suspension was tuned by CRS for ride and comfort at 2k miles [I had heavier ARBs and Koni active shocks fitted, ride height was very modestly changed]. ADAS worked pre and post CRS visit in early 2021 but failed a static and dynamic recalibration following a windscreen replacement last week. Automotive Windscreens were my insurer's goto suppliers of replacement screens, this included ADAS recalibration.... all boxes ticked?.... Or so I thought.....

Following their unsuccessful attempt to recalibrate, they recommended a specialist [!] and I am now having to sort out the recalib and who will pay..... I sense trouble and hassel ahead. I can deal with the insurance side of it but I am much less confident about the technology issues that I may encounter on the route to resolution.

Given the learning experienced here, particularly BikePa's, I wonder if these could be distilled down to the key questions/knowledge that someone in my position who is just about to go down this rabbit hole should have? For example, BikePa's point about doing a reset to factory standard spec prior to recalib process is something I wished I had been aware of a few days ago.....

Oh man this post is timely, I have a large crack on the upper LHS that is slowly but steadily increasing and now one just appeared on the bottom RHS. As with many others, van is not standard so I am guessing best bet is VW main dealer.

In Kent if anyone has had any experiences of getting it replaced and working on a non standard vehicle.

Hi. I feel your pain! It's issues like this that really make me fall out of love with my van.
My frustration is with Auto Windscreens at the moment. Why did they carry out the work if they knew they couldn't do it. Even my insurance company said they should've phoned them to say they couldn't complete the work 100%. All the windscreen company did was send an email afterwards saying they couldn't help and they take no responsibility whatsoever. What a cheek! They even handed my van back with the ignition running so I couldn't see the fault until I started it up again later that day.

I will of course keep you updated on my findings...

That’s great. Hopefully one day I’ll be as good as you on the road…
 
We can all read road signs.

I personally did not spec the system.

Most new vehicles have these systems due to EU safety legislation (ok not all CVs)

These systems throw irritating errors every ign cycle & likely to cause MOT failures in future years.

We are simply trying to resolve these issues. There is no need for unhelpful comments on a technical thread, keep that for the pub!

Took it to my local dealership who before even starting work said that they'd had this before and ended up having to revert a van to standard spec and then back again, costing £ks, but would give it a go anyway. 3 hours later they come back saying that it can't be done "we've tried everything". Same symptom as you've all described of camera positioning incorrect.

So, I've booked in an appointment at Marshall's in Bridgend based on previous posts here (some 400 mile round trip) as they confirmed over the phone that their Master Tech knows the work-around... Fingers crossed.

It’d be interesting to hear if they’ll confirm ‘how’ they describe the work around on this to you as it beggars belief that not all VW CV service depts know how to do it yet
