T6.1 audio frog speaker upgrade help anyone?

Hi

Anyone fitted audio frog speakers to their t6.1? Tweeters are supposed to be plug and play but they have a flange on them and can’t be installed from the back of the tweeter housing, would have to be installed from the front but then the tweeter grill wouldn’t fit back on.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

I’ve bought the speakers to fit when I get the van. Skipton Car Radio supply the kit to swap over the tweeters so I’m surprised to hear they don’t fit. I would talk to SCR see what they say

Spoke to SCR this morning and the guys we’re really helpfull, even sent me some pictures. Where the confusion was, and you’ll probably see for yourself when you get yours, the tweeter does not actually fit in the tweeter housing itself, a lot of the tweeters I’ve seen are the same dimensions as the oem and fit inside the tweeter housing and you glue it in place. The audiofrogs have a flange so this can’t be done, you can’t attach from the front because the grill would not fit back on. What I now know is you simply place the face of the tweeter to the back of the housing and just glue it in place. Anyway all in now and sounds mega!!

Might be worth having spare door card clips at the ready too, most of mine broke, Ended up getting 12 new ones from vw for less than £15.

I’ve also purchased some (this forum makes me spend money ) and fitted today.
Fairly straight forward just a bit tricky removing the door card, I left the switches plugged in but just pushed the whole assembly through the hole and the door handle cable just in clips. Drilled out the existing speakers as they are riveted in and fixed the new ones. Will need to get some new door card clips as I broke most on removing the card.
Tweeters were easy with the supplied glue gun and the sound is much improved. The whole job probably took 1-2 hours.

I’ve got a set of these to fit when I get the van. What fixings did you use to fix the main driver unit back in place?

There were a pack of self tapper screws supplied with the speakers, I just drilled pilot holes in a different position to the original holes as they were to big after drilling out the rivets.

There was a recent thread that said the 6.1 door clips were different?

Might be worth searching before ordering!

They do come with 4 self tappers but like someone else said on here by the time you drill the pot rivets out the self tappers don’t fit. You can, like suggested drill 4 more holes but I used rivet nuts in the existing holes which will help if I ever need to take them out. If you use rivet nuts just make sure your machined screws are not too long as you might break your window glass.
