T6.1 5speed to 6 speed gearbox upgrade

Evening everyone, next mission on my T6.1 is a possible 6 speed gearbox upgrade from the existing 5speed box just wondering if anyone has managed to complete this upgrade and how the coding was done as I believe it’s not possible with vcds.
Any insight into this project would be appreciated 👍

Did you get anymore info on this mate? Looking into it myself but can't find much on it or any companies that offer a conversion

Why would VW carry the 5 speed box through to the 6.1?

They're generally fairly robust on the 6.1 unless abused in some way. The 6.1 can't (without going to great lengths) be remapped so people aren't so easily able to exceed the units fairly low torque limit. Thus left alone they aren't proving problematic.

Its not as if DSG clutch packs are a breath of fresh air on the wallet.

We've got a 5.1 with a 5 speed , never been mapped and I've had to have the box rebuilt on it .
I looked into a 6 speed upgrade and it wasn't cheap nor were parts readily available so it didn't happen .

No response on it unfortunately
The mechanical side it easy but it’s the software problem that I want to get past just need to find a way to get the 6 speed recognised by the ECU for the cruise to work 🫤

Not really proving to be an issue on the 6.1, which is the subject at hand. Slightly altered design on the 02Z for 2020MY onwards.

@Superchargedgti be interesting if you fine a solution to this conundrum. Keep us updated.

Do Parkside not do this? I've seen on another thread that they have done conversions, or may be able to help with the software

Darkside list all the parts needed for the 5.1 conversion but I haven't seen them list the parts for the 6.1 might be worth a call .
Maybe the later boxes haven't proved to be an issue 'yet' ....
Ours lasted 130k before it started

All the earlier T6.1 can be remapped until the change of ecu about mid 2021.

The 6.1 has been about for 7 years come March. If they were going to grenade frequently enough to be noteworthy we'd have seen it already.
