T5.1 sliding door mechanism issue

Reposted here as I put it in the wrong place initially

Hello Everyone,

First post. I have a t5.1 which has an issue with the side door latch / locking mechanism. The outer door handle opens the door fine. However the inner handle does not.

I have removed the mechanism and found that the inner handle actuator pulls only the cable to the front lower latch and not to the rear latch. I have opened up the mechanism and attached a photo with some numbers drawn on it.

Basically if you push #1 then #2 and #3 move i.e. both cables are pulled.
However if you move #4 only #3 moves

I would expect moving #4 should mimic what moving #1 does i.e. actuate both #2 & #3 and pull both cables thus opening both door mechanisms.

Hi Matthew I have the same problem. Thought my old mechanism was worn so I bought a new one from TPS. Fitted it and annoying it still won’t open from inside it’s like the inside handle isn’t pulling the rear cable far enough. Even the outside handle is hard to open compared to drivers side. Wondering if you found a solution?
Cheers Tim

Hi Mathew, I've got a similar issue too. Just rung TPS for the first time to order the part and told they only sell to the trade. How did you manage to get around this, assuming you're not in the trade?
Thanks

@Riz Mine opens OK but not as well as the drivers side (mine is a twin door). I guess the latch and the lower latch will be your next ports of call. Did you replace the cables?
Thanks. I ended up replacing the whole mechanism as the cables weren't pulling. Got my local garage to order in for me in the end and fitted myself. Working better than it ever has done in 6 years, so I'm happy even though it's not cheap at £261.
