Surface rust under side load door step

Hi All, Removed my rubber floor today as starting to convert into a day van and noticed it’s was quite wet under most the floor with a few areas of paint bubble.
Under the plastic side step was the worst area with some rust , what we be a good way to deal with this? Sand off rust and apply some type of prima ?
Noticed the the sliding window was leaking that’s that’s probably the cause of the step area.
I use the the van for windsurf/ surfing a lot so guessing that’s why it’s pretty damp under the loading mat , but I’m pretty careful putting wet kit in buckets and drying stuff off etc.
Thanks

Poor crap quality T5/T6. My old T5 was rotten there. I have checked the T6 and it’s starting surface rust. I have sanded it down, rust converter applied primed and painted over. Check every 6 months and repeat… once rust starts you ll never get rid of

Recently had to remove mine due to spillage…..and found this

Moisture trap…..but also with foot traffic on trim cover scratching painted surface…I’d recommend new or old removing trim and spraying with a WD type product and a very thin cushion material to avoid major paint surgery later…as an added precaution I dry the sliding door runner recess after washing

Ps If you do own a x builders van check it sooner than later

Yes mines had a lot of foot traffic and window leaks , bad combination!
Good point about wd and adding a barrier , think I’ll use a rubber inner tube and lay in that section. Cheers

Make sure whatever barrier you add doesn’t trap the water underneath it, you’ll find you’ll make the situation worse if it retains the moisture. Wax-oil, dinitrol, bilt hamber wax or similar would be a better prospect, and will allow you to do the underside in the roller void also.
