Stuck in Privacy Mode: Fixed!

So my new T6.1 was stuck in privacy mode, meaning i could connect to the internet / VW App. I took it to VW, after finding out the previous owner had swapped the radios like for like. This unlocked the ability to add the registration code, but it still was not working - it was stuck in full privacy.

VW were insistant that the latest software was installed as well, so it was not that.

After playing around in OBD11, module 5F (radio) did not have much in the way of adaptations that would help. I had a look at the Telematics module, no faults but also no live connection, after looking at the live data for connection status.etc. I then performed an 'adaptations reset to normal values' which turned off the module (SOS light went off). It took a couple of minutes, but when it came back - the radio privacy mode had changed, and the globe went white. So it seems it performed some kind of reset.

Hopefully this helps people out there, its worth a try!

Now to work out why i have a communication error with my USB module....

Unsure if I have the same sort of issue you had. My system was working fine until March and then went offline. No activated globe icon, privacy hangs and cannot get into the settings of privacy. Sometimes says function not available.

Software version is 0883.

VW connect services referred me to a local dealer, the dealer messed me around. Told me they were doing a software update but on the day it was an 1hr investigation to confirm I was one update off latest!! Things we already knew the day before from a phone conversation. Regardless, they were not going to do the install that day.

VW connect told the dealer to do a OCU reset but the dealer said it didn't fix anything and latest update is needed. VW connect say they disagree and there is no further update for my van (I think there is according to VW website - 0889).

The dealer wants £360 for the software update but VW want me to go elsewhere for OCU reset again. They say 0883 should work fine and I have no outstanding updates but 0889 release notes says without this version installed online update connectivity stops.

So at a cross roads of either trying to get 0883 working or move to 0889.

Not sure if I should purchase OBDEleven and try to follow the steps you did, if you had privacy mode hanging?

You could try it? Though in the end, it was component protection on mine as the unit was replaced before i bought the van. In the end, I got VW to remove that but put an Alpine stereo in there anyway
