Strands License plate Reverse light

Hello Everybody,

I'm thinking of installing the Strand Nuuk E-line license plate with led bar on the back of the van and integrate it as reversing light.
Would this be possible? Can I just wire it into the reversing light cables? Do I need to run a cable towards the battery or can i plug into a permanent live cable in the light wire harness?

Help is much appreciated on this topic.

Thanks

Interesting idea.

I suspect you'll need the canbus interface they mention as well as the light feed on modern vans is pulsed (see many threads on reversing camera power)

On point to note is that while advice on reversing cameras would be relevant in picking up a good reversing signal this unit looks like it has considerable power draw so the discussions on powering reversing cameras probably isn't.

Unfortunately it doesn't seem clear what power it draws. The manual shows a 20A fuse which would be good for 200w, which seems excessive. The website states 82w, which is still a lot.

There isn't really a good clean power feed in the doors/tailgate though I think @Deaky might have suggested there may be a permanent live to the rear wiper.

There may also be legal/MOT implications in fitting it, a light with a range of 400m might fail the dazzle criteria when used to reverse near traffic. Fitting a switch to the power supply such that you can disable it on the road but use it in dark car parks, yards etc might be wise.

Surely they would obscure the reading of a number plate by big brother and as such would be illegal front or rear.
