Steering wheel swap

Morning, I’m looking for information on switching my standard 2004 4 spoke wheel to something a little more ergonomic and modern. It works and does the job perfectly but I’d like a three spoke standard wheel without all the buttons and guff. I’ve been told Lupos, golf and tourans are a direct replacement with a few airbag correction's. Is this true? Any info is much appreciated.

A lot of VW steering wheels will fit. Golf polo etc.
what you need to pay attention to is the fixing holes for the airbag.
You will need a wheel that has the 2 rectangular holes for the airbag clips that are at either side. Like 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock.
This is so your existing airbag will fit it.
The guide above explains the wires and connectors you will need and how to install them if you want all the buttons to work and to activate cruise control.
Be aware though if you want the buttons to work they must be from a T6 to light up red and work properly.
Unless you have an earlier EURO5 T6 then I think the polo buttons work.

Just noticed you said 2004. That will be a T5 and I’m not sure about them. The wheels are different on them.
