Steering Controls Take Time To "warm Up" Before Functioning

Hi guys,

I continue on my list of little nags that I'm looking to sort on my T6!

I've noticed a strange pattern occurring with the steering wheel controls that are wired into the Pioneer headunit I have. When I first get in the van and set off, I try to use the volume control buttons on the steering wheel, and nothing happens.

At "some point" during the journey, I will try that volume control and they will work without any problems. I haven't nailed down the pattern to "how long" before these controls work, but they consistently don't work when you first start the car from cold. It's as if the steering controls need to "warm up" before they start to work.

Is this some kind of a capacitor problem somewhere in the wiring which is not keeping its charge?

That must be a pioneer aftermarket radio / MFSW issue . . . . What model radio do you have? Does it pick up the wheel buttons via CAN bus or seperate module?

Got a few pics.

No problems with the factory MFSW buttons and Factory Discovery media head unit....

@Absolut5 May be they main-man that could possibly answer your question regarding aftermarket radios.

There will be a CanBus decoder behind the headunit, though it sounds a strange fault, it’s more than likely a faulty decoder.

What brand/model interface is it?

Hi all,

On Saturday afternoon, after recommendation from @Absolut5 on this thread to fit a DC Stabiliser to fix a headunit restart problem, I had one fitted by a local car audio shop, which has resolved the problem.

It seems that either as part of the re-wiring, or as a direct contribution of this DC Stabiliser, the problem mentioned in this thread has resolved itself. The steering wheel controls now work from cold with the fitted head unit.
