Stealth Flap Or Alternative ??

Was just going to press the buy button on a THQ stealth flap for the EHU in socket, then I read a couple of postes on soe FB groups about he brackets snapping as they are thin 3D printed. On my old T5 I had the EHU under the bonnet as it also had a leisure battery set up with split charge etc.

On our new t6.1 Kombi Twin slider we are going for slide pods and an Ecoflow Powerstation set up but I also want to add EHU.

I do Like the Stealth flap, bit it's £150 and if they break!!

What other options work for people that have EHI inputs towards the rear (I don't want it on the side of the Van!)

Search YouTube as theee is a diy alternative. I did the diy version on my T5.1 and it’s still going strong after 5 years. I recently fitted the THQ one to my T6.1 and whilst I’m hopeful it will last personally I think the diy version will last a lot longer if it’s sprayed with a lubricant every so often. Both vans are twin sliders. There’s under the back bumper but these usually get covered in muck and need replacing every few years or under the bonnet is the other main option.

I purchased a THQ stealth flap kit. Hinge looked really flimsey, so returned it. Made my own using two surface mount cabinet door hinges.

There you go

Hinges - unsprung version

Socket is a normal surface mount job. Tried one with a threaded cap but that was too tall. Aluminium strip is 4mm stock from amazon. Arctic blue cable goes through a factory drilled hole under the light with addition of a grommet.
Fitted hinges to van first & then to flap. Location of hinge most difficult part.

Previous incarnation hookup was under bonnet but decided to move it this time.

This Surface mount socket. Mounted using the internal screw holes and with the LH external tab ground off. Other standard 3 pin were too high.

You can get low profile & fully waterproof connectors, but chose not to use one of those as they are very proprietry and if you lost your hookup lead you would be scunnered until you could source another. These "Commando" sockets and leads are a standard part sold at most camping sites.

I also have a bit of red cord I loop on my steering wheel when I hook up as I am the kind of idiot that would drive off with it still connected....

Do you have any pics you could post up of your dIY stealth Flap?

Just reviving this thread as in the new year this will be near the top of my To Do list!

Anyone else recently fitted either the THQ stealth flap or a DIY job to a T6 or T6.1? lets hear your thoughts and see your pics.:)

If I was going to do it I’d make sure the hinge is stainless steel and attached to a bonded doubler plate inside the panel (like post #8).
The OEM panel is only really rigid when it’s fixed in place.
