Squeaky door hinge

Hi,

Not sure which forum to post this question so hope it's ok here.

I have a squeaky drivers door hinge where it seems the ball part of the hinge is not rotating as the door is being opened.

Is there anything I can do to try and free up the ball joint? It seems it's quite common for these hinges to snap, I wonder if this is the first step to that happening?

Thanks!

Mine was seized on one side and making the same noise. Just spray lots of wd40 up into the cup and work back and forth with some pliers until free. You will have to do this for a couple of days until the crud comes out. Oh make sure to put some cloth underneath as it makes abit of a rusty mess.

I had the same, greased it up, it eased off and reduced the noise for a little while....then one day it just snapped off. Was lucky enough to find a body colour replacement from a year old scrapped RAC T6.1 on eBay for a decent price. New OEM come unpainted and are about £100.

Mine was doing exactly this. The roller is like a hat sat over the pin, so you have to squirt upwards from underneath*. I used some lithium grease I had in a can. Aiming at the top doesn’t do anything.

Seems to be moving again now 👍🏼 I had tried wd40 but not from the bottom. Doing that and some grips got it moving again and then more spray and opening/closing seemed to free up it, hopefully the hinge can last a while longer now!

Thanks all for your input!

The top cap of the roller is removable with a small, flat screwdriver.

Once that's removed, you can squish grease into the roller whilst rocking the door backwards and forwards.
After a bit, the rusty muck from inside will work its way out the bottom of the roller.

then you can just clip the cap back on.
