From the UK MOT Manual: ‘ There must not be more than 2 DRLs fitted and they must emit white light’
Uk Maneuvering light requirements, I looked into this when fitting a Labcraft Scenelight under my rear bumper;
Maneuvering lights (or reversing lamps) on UK vehicles need approval by meeting specific rules (UNECE Reg 48/23), requiring white light, <500cd intensity, automatic switch-on with reverse gear (or parking assist) and automatic switch-off above 10-15 km/h, ensuring they're visible but not blinding, and installed symmetrically on vehicles/trailers. For fitting aftermarket or modified lights, they must be E-marked (approved) and comply with installation rules under Individual Vehicle Approval (IVA) or type approval to pass tests, with DVSA checking placement and visibility.
Key Regulations & Requirements:
Colour & Intensity: Must be white, not exceeding 500 candela (cd) intensity, with <0.5cd in the field of view where light shouldn't be seen.
Activation: Activated by reverse gear or a camera system; must switch off if vehicle speed exceeds 10-15 km/h.
Installation (Motor Vehicles): Connected to dipped/main beam headlights; must be symmetrical.
Installation (Trailers): Must be mounted symmetrically, activated with position lamps, and take speed input from the trailer.
Approval Marks: Look for an 'E' or 'e' mark on the lamp unit for UK/EU approval.
