Hi. Now have a T6 bluemotion . And saw comments saying don't fit a split charger to a van with stop/start. ? People must have second batteries !

What's the best solution for a leisure battery with a van with stop/start ..

any recommendations for kits I can buy that solve the stop start ? Issue ?

Many thanks

Bob

I have a CTEK 250SA that does the B2B and solar charging for my leisure battery, it also charges the starter battery from solar when the the leisure battery is fully charged.
It’s now over 7 years old and no issues.
It may not be the best option but it takes up very little space and that’s important in a small van.
I also use Victron equipment (not in the van), good quality and monitoring via an app. I’d be ware of creating an electrical cupboard that would be more useful if it contained camping equipment.

The issue is the smart alternator tries to keep the starter battery at about 80% and will idle the alternator when possible. This means a traditional split charger won’t charge the leisure battery properly or fully. So with a smart alternator equipped vehicle you want to look at DC to DC chargers (sometimes called battery to battery). A great starting point is the Victron Orion XS or the older TR versions depending on your need. Renogy are also common and a bit cheaper as are CTEK. Have a good read through Dellmassive’s posts for full details.
