Spare Wheel Cover

Is it a good thing to use a cover on the spare wheel and if so any recommendations?
Good point! It was only when the guys at CRS in Cannock had my van up on a ramp and I saw the state of my 16" spare! I decided to remove it for good. I have 2 20" spares in my garage ready for deployment, but Green Flag will be bringing me home for me to fit one! For long distance trips I put a spare on a Bak Rak towbar carrier so at least I don't look too special in the event of a remote catastrophe!
A European trip this year will see it used again.
I wonder if anyone makes a spare cover? Never seen one.... but then, I suppose you wouldn't!

Seems a funny thing to do, makes sense if you have 20s and 4motion or something but otherwise it seems a bit strange not to use the available space under the van, also looks like it’s obscured the number plate so really should have another plate on the wheel shouldn’t you?

I have not looked at my spare for a long time (I assume it’s still there) but assuming it is why worry about what it looks like as long as it’s serviceable and then the biggest challenge will probably be getting the thing off especially as I have an antitheft fixing!

I've contemplated bagging up my spare wheel before putting it back underneath but am unsure whether it would help to keep it clean and dry or would it trap condensation? 🤔
What about the stuff they use to wrap pallets with ? (Giant cling film)

I believe that to remain legal the number plate on the wheel should be illuminated as well.

I shoved mine up on the tailgate as the last thing I want to be doing is crawling under the van in the dark, particularly if its already a few inches lower due to a flat.
