Sometimes, the cabin's fan is not working when we use the webasto (engine off)

Hi !

I have a Caravelle T6 from 2016, 2.0 TDI 4m.
We have a water webasto, warming the engine and the cabin.

7 months per year, we use the Webasto many times per day, everyday.
The webasto was changed 18 months ago.

For the 3rd time in the 4 past weeks, the webasto is running, but not the air blower in the cabin. Even if we push/turn each button of the console.
The fan finally starts to work 2-3 minutes after the engine is running, like normal. It's -27°c currently so it's little cold on the cabin...
All other times the fan was working well.

I don't have any light on the dashboard.

Please, do you have any idea?
Have y our hear about a similar problem?

Thank you :)

Any faults recorded?
Please post full VCDS Auto-Scan.

I am not a T6 expert, but how is your battery?
Not sure from which bettery your fans (should) run with the motor OFF, (Starter or Auxiliary) bit if it is the starter one the car is maybe preventing the fan to run in order to save battery for startup.
I have seen funnier things happening with not perfect batteries in the cold.

MMI, I will plug the computer soon as possible this week.

FWhite, the batteries seem good, but I will follow.
At the moment where the webasto was asked :
- the main battery was at 12,53v (the state of charge was at 81%) then 12,29v 5 minutes after (the starting period I imagine)
- the second battery (for the webasto) was at 12,79v (SoC = 71%) then 12,25v 5 minutes after

I remember that the webasto is running from the second battery (in the driver seat). And the air blower from the starter battery.

We again had the problem 2 hours ago.
-28
The car was fully warm, we were driving. Batteries were charged.
We stop at the supermarket, then I immediately start the webasto to keep the car warm, and... no airblowing.
The webasto was working during 15 minutes (I saw the steam coming from under the car).

Please find the VCDS log, I didn't few minutes ago, webasto and blowing working well.

The fault has been registered 6 times (fault frequency: 6), and actually both codes (9485974, 9485977) point to the same component.

It seems it's either the blower itself or the control unit (speed regulator).
Certainly possible to have worn out brushes in blower motor at 380.000 km.

Thanks a lot.

Why is it always the same behaviour ?

When it's not blowing, it never start when just the webasto is running, even after 30 minutes or more.
But if I turn the key/start the engine, the blower is starting after 2 minutes and working perfectly well.

I imagine VW will never have the time to look for it this week, and I will start to work saturday everyday, non stop during 4 months :(

I wish I knew

A guess - perhaps the Webasto sends start request only once - and if that fails to start the blower... it's not started (but perhaps fault frequency counter steps up)

But if I turn the key/start the engine, the blower is starting after 2 minutes and working perfectly well.
Engine running thus higher voltage, a restart because of turning ignition on??

By chance, is anyone know which parts I have to order?
Is it difficult to change it myself?

When the blower is not working, it can start when I firmly hit the glove box with my hand.

I tried to change the blower but I don't have the good tool : I need a size 5 to remove screws.
And, I don't understand how to remove the frame in front of the blower (see the attached picture). I found some screw but it's not enough.
This frame blocks me to access to some screns.

At the same time, I don't have any more hot air from the rear blowing system, and in a very cold country, it's not so nice...
We get cold air.

It seems to be this part of the report :

Do you know if I can open the flap / valve manualy and discontect it to keep it open ? (then we can manage with the rear blower)
Should we remove all the plastic in the trunk to access to this part ?

I've got a complete rear blower/heater unit here if you need some pictures. It does have little plastic control arms on it which I can try and move if you want.

Okay, only one lever, can't move it by hand unless I pop it off the motor drive bit, but definitely opens a flap inside ...
