Sliding Door Not Closing Properly

I wasn't sure where to post this but as a door won't lock, I'm thinking 'security issue! I went to shut the side door on my 18 month old, 4K miles T6 Highline this morning and it wouldn't close properly. The problem seems to be with the 'latch' mechanism in the door not 'hooking' over the bar in the door frame - sorry if I've got the terminology wrong! I've searched and found references to similar problems with soft close / electronic doors but mine's the bog standard version. I've got VW assistance going to see me later today but I'm not hopeful that they can sort it properly, particularly if replacement parts are needed. My local (but far away) van centre will not be able to look at it until well into January and, in the meantime, I'm left with a very expensive camper with a side door that won't close and thus can't bar locked. Has anybody had similar problems or can make suggestion about what's going on please? I guess I'm looking also for ammo for when I see Mr / Ms VW Assist later today. Anything would be much appreciated.

I have had to have my door control module replaced twice as first it would not unlock and then it would not close as the latch would not engage. Mine does have power-latching but I assume all have a control module as that is also part of the central locking.

When mine failed to close I called out VW assist. They could not repair it but I did get a priority slot at the nearest VW van centre the next day and a courtesy van.

Higgidav, Thanks for the response. The VW guy actually arrived (an hour earlier than the original forecast) and had a look at it. He reckoned that the catch was knacked and needed replacing. Luckily he had the part in question in his van, fitted it and all seems OK. The only issue now is that he broke most of the clips when he took the panel off (probably due to the cold) and it seems that they are a bit larger than the VW ones so he couldn't put the panel back. I'll now need to talk to the converter to either get him to put the panel back or send me a handful of clips to do the job myself. On the plus side, at least I'll sleep more soundly tonight knowing that the van is properly locked up.
