Looking into bed options and I really like the idea of it being on rails to give the flexibility of a large boot space or a large chill out area. BUT, my oh my the cost!!!

Cheapest I've found is the Mobiframe which comes in at £4400 with 120cm bed. Which looks great tbf but £4400 for a sliding bed.......... Is there any cheaper way to achieve this?

We find the Caravelle bench seat comfortable to sleep on but just through over a quilt or eiderdown first before making up the bedding. some might prefer something like thin foam or even nothing. When put flat the bed is too short on its own. Some use the middle row seats to lengthen the bed we bought one of those folding tables VW designed for the job that run on rails rear to the bed/bench. Expensive new but very well mad we do not need the whole lot folding out only one of the surfaces, not being giants. At the time did not realise that a cushion could have been bought to level or cover the lot bed and folding table thing forgotten its name.

We have the full width, 150cm, Mobiframe rail system RIB, A few rattles to bottom out but happy with the bed and the seat is lower than our old RIB so I (184cm, 6' 1") can actually sit on it without my head against the pop top bed. A surprise to me, but it is slightly longer as a bed than our old RIB, I think it is 190cm long.

It was expensive, but not as expensive as some other systems.

Im really liking the look of it mate. To help swallow the cost I could get the floor and then then bed/seat at a later date. I need to work out the maximum size bed width I could have whilst still allowing for a slimline kitchen

Campervinn did my floor installation, but it can be a DIY job.

My journey was instigated by a growing teenager not being able to share the double front seat anymore, so went to single passenger seat (also an eyewateringly expensive move) and needed the rear seat to be closer to the front than our fixed RIB. The fixed RIB was a 112cm 2 seater that was not that comfortable to share, so looked at getting a wider one which would obviously impact the kitchen units already fitted. Rather than compromise on the bed width for storage we decided to go full width bed and no fixed kitchen/cupboards. I now have a removable pod for the fridge and sink, which just fits in front of the sliding seat when it is in 'travelling' proximity to the front, and leaves the rear seat as a two seater. Of course, the pod could also be secured behind the rear seat if we want to retain the 3 seats in the back.

So many decisions....

I’m think low level slimline units the whole length of the van, accessed via the tops (hinged lids)
Fridge at the front, accessed easily. Don’t want to be fighting to get a cold beer!

We considered that, but decided we wanted to keep 5 seats. We also noticed that our V5 hadn't been changed from the original 3 seat panel van, so we got that updated to 5 seats - didn't even try to get it reclassified as a camper though.

Our fridge is accessible on journeys too, when on family outings it now comes complete with a waitress in the back :)
