Silding door bowden cable/ latch issue

Hi there, new to the site joined today, hello all :). Sliding door wont close, the latch is engaged in the open position. 2 dealers told me it needed a new latch however having replaced it this isn't the issue as it keeps happening. Having tinkered with it myself it seems the bowden cable isn't releasing fully to allow for the latch to change positions enabling it to engage the eye plate (see attached image detailing exactly what's happening). The cable will free up by pulling the cable with pliers and it's fine for a 4-5 months then happens again however last time it happened within 2 weeks. I'm thinking perhaps it may be catching in the actuator or somewhere along the cable itself. Any help would be most appreciated thank you? Steve

I’ve never looked at one but if it works fine for 4-5 months and then becomes a problem it points to lubrication or lack of it.
Not ideal as I would think the cable was designed to be installed maintenance free.
