Should tents be banned or segregated?

But the segregation is sometimes there and only the site owners know why they do it that way. Could be a variety of reasons and I don't think many would admit poor behaviour as a reason for fear of damaging their own business.
Banning those who behave badly, in my eyes, enhances their business and their reputation. By attempting to cater for such people, they risk damaging their business and alienating those tarred with the same brush.

This is one of the most ridiculous suggestions I’ve ever seen on this forum.

I’ve spent many summers on camp sites in my 44 years. Many as a kid with my parents and many more as a parent with my wife and kids, who aren’t really kids at all anymore.

We’ve had tents and touring caravans of our own and sometimes stayed in static vans too.

To suggest banning or segregating an entire group of campers simply because of their choice of accommodation is ridiculous.

Behaviour has nothing to do with the accommodation, it’s the people. I’ve seen plenty of dickheads in and around touring caravans, camper vans, motor homes and static vans over the years, and I’ve met plenty of lovely people in tents. I’ve also met plenty of dickheads in tents and nice people in all these other forms of accommodation too.

Discriminating against anyone who chooses to stay in a tent because of the poor behaviour of some is just incredible.

This is an opinion that would have been better kept to yourself.

join the CMHC and go to CL sites that dont allow kids or should I say over 18s only and there's no tent dwellers

To be fair I think he was just having a time of the month grump and not really suggesting it for T6 Meets and other camp venues. Just fed up of having his guy ropes twanged by the irresponsible. I think the excessive and high pollen counts can make any one grumpy or more irritable than normal.

No pollen was hurt during this conversation. It is a pollen friendly site and I have already been punished for the sexist sterio type I am out numbered here. I know my place ,och ow
I think I acknowledged most of these points in my original message, if not then my subsequent messages.

The suggestion considered “One of the most ridiculous things” is standard policy in many sites in one form or another so withhold the outrage because I happened to think you are right but I guess it’s the realisation that I don’t want to spend time on sites where people like that holiday

The irony :slow rofl:

Fair point, I’ll remove it from the market due to my change in my personal beliefs

And it’s sold 😄

My son’s just home from Creamfields.
He was camping the weekend.
I lent him the decent easy to erect 2 man tent.
Even gave him my 10 new tough pegs I bought for my awning.
Wife bought him a cheap camp chair.
He returned with the tent.
No poles or pegs and the new seat torn from trailing upside down across a field.
So tent is in the bin.
Ah well he won’t be using that again.
I would give him a slap but he’d fill me in these days

I have another tent to sell

As has already been said, it isn’t the house, it’s the occupants. We tent camped for 40 years, still do the odd wild camp in our Hilleberg. We met nice people, and w4nkers not so nice people. The same goes for some folk in campervans and motorhomes. We travel light, don’t bother with awnings/windbreaks/carpets etc. we can quickly up-sticks and shift if needs be, and have done in the past. We avoid the school holidays like the plague and also seek out the quieter sites. When abroad we avoid any site with more than 2 stars. All we seek is a quiet pitch, clean loo & a hot shower. Pools/clubs/restaurants they can keep.

Snap, also have a Hilleburg. travel light don't have an awning blar blar will move quickly away from any irritant, now it is possible to again to avoid school, Uni and public holidays go when we like both retired, still prefer off the road stealth or out of the way camping unless unavoidable. Sky for instance. Unfortunately do not posses a roadworthy true OFF Road 4x4 though still have a small fleet of military 4x4 and 6x6 now rotting away. In hindsight I would still have personally preferred a Steyer Pizgauer 718K 6x6 but i think i might be told I have had enough of that sort of thing. So may look at something a little different

I think I might be told I have had enough of that sort of thing. So may look at something a little different a little smaller but versatile and convertible. I will not be asking for same only camping.

Private camping found not requested

Haven't used any campsites in the UK for some time (largely for the poor value that they represent rather than misbehaving although we had witnessed a fair amount) - although tenters were often very good value - especially those that had just been to decathlon and were unpacking and pitching their tents for the very first time. Sit back in the van with a G & T and enjoy the display.

And then the double bonus after a windy night where they hadn't bothered with guy ropes. This time a hot cup of coffee in the warmth watching them re-erect the tent.

More than twice seen them just shove everything back in the car and disappear.

Hate people regardless of what they camp in.

Actually, thinking about it, that might be my problem.
Yeah, good summary I guess.

Having had some time (and an excellent pub lunch) to discuss it I think it’s clear, it’s us (me) not them, we camped in the wrong place (as in the pitch not the site, well maybe the site) I really need to be close to the loos but this was too close and we would possibly choose the same site again given the same options (although we try never to stay on the same site twice). I wouldn’t want to put people off the site as it’s a very nice place and nice and attentive owners (toilet rolls and hand towels topped up regularly and bins emptied throughout the day, doesn’t sound much but it is a difference from the sort of site that would pack em in and take the money and never seen during the stay).

I still stand by the fact that a lot of tent campers have different priorities but accept that I therefore need to segregate myself from them, something that we do normally due to our ever increasing list of requirements when choosing a site but it highlights that these aren’t nice to haves, they are firm requirements

Well that’s the difference, I would be constantly worried that I’d end up with a decathlon tent shaped scrape down the side of my van, you are happy to enjoy the show.

NEVER let him borrow your camper!

Is it one of your neighbours’ (maybe the guy who keeps twanging your guy lines) - have you confiscated it to teach him a lesson
that must be the funniest yet just broke into uncontrolled laughter my cheeks are smarting with the pronounced grin that keeps reappearing:fast rofl:.

This is great, a Hilleberg appreciation group @Salty Spuds, @Kind of Blue :)

We still love our collection but haven’t used one since buying the van, although I keep threatening. I even posted a photo last Wednesday.

We do sometimes hang our Hilleberg tarp on the van though.
