Servicing And Warranty....

My van has just come up with a warning for an Oil Change in 800 Miles (67 Plate, 12k miles)

With my previous vehicle (Isuzu DMAX) I bought Genuine Parts and Oil and got it serviced at my local specialist which was ok to uphold the warranty. As far as I’m aware it had to be done with Genuine Parts at a VAT Registered Garage

Am I right in thinking it’s the same with the VW or would they be more likely to get fussy with any warranty issues if it had been done by a Specialist as opposed to themselves?

It’s the same, like you say as long as it’s genuine parts and a VAT registered garage it’s fine

A friend managed a fleet of about 40 VW's, all are serviced at independents', and there have never been any issues with warranty work. That said, i paid £174 for my oil change service at a main dealer, but regret doing that, as they managed to lose the service book, then treat you with arrogance for trying to get the matter sorted.
I think on the latest vans they have stopped supplying a service book, saying all service records are on their system, so you dont need one. Just their way of trying to keep you on main dealer servicing, i suppose.
The only benefit of main dealer servicing i can think of is if there is an issue shortly outside of warranty is that you can sometimes get some goodwill from them if it has full main dealer servicing.

our MY18 PV didnt come with a service record book,

same as above, its all online now they said when i asked where my book was !!!

so im just keeping my own service record book at home or on excel. and add all the other bits and pieces to it as well as main dealer servicing etc.

I wonder how that's going to work when the UK isn't part of Europe, will VW UK revert back to the old 'if it ain't done at a dealer then no warranty claim for you'...
We should adapt and bring in a load of new U.K. laws to replace the EU ones that will no longer be valid. How well that’ll go, I don’t know.

unless specific rules/laws are rewritten then all existing things stay in place so there will be no immediate change to anything

I called my local dealer to get a price on the Oil Sevice and they said it's not due until 2 Years/25k Miles. They did say if i wanted the Indicator resetting then I could just pop in and they would do it. Is this the case or should i be getting it done now when the van is telling me it's due?

It is up to you, a lot of guys on here don't wait 2 years regardless of what VW say.I had mine done about 12,000:thumbsup:

I purchased a service book when I collected my van, so it'll still have all the correct stamps should I ever sell it.

I get my oil changed at 5k at my local independent and then I'll get a 10k/12 month service at VW, I don't like long life service intervals and treat my vehicles as if they will be my last.

The danger of using an independent for all servicing is if you try and p/x it at a main dealer, selling privately won't be an issue.
