I know I am new to the VW camper van fraternity but I just wondered if I’m doing something wrong. When visiting an event I been tooted and waved at by scores of VW T2/3/4/5/6 drivers and have been very happy to toot / wave back.
However it doesn’t happen at any other time. I always acknowledge other transporter ‘ camper drivers whenever I am on the road but rarely ever do I get an acknowledgement back.
Is this something others experience or is my expectation too high / just plain wrong?

Firstly welcome.
Secondly, It varies. Don't forget for some people that have a van, it's a workhorse, it may just be company vehicle.
I found that when driving a panel van around I rarely got a wave. Now it's converted I get a lot more however still vans go past with no wave insight.
IMHO it's nice having a wave but that's it for me I don't get upset if I don't.
The lifestyle come into it's own when you come on here and read helpful posts and how to threads made by owners off of their own back.

Thanks for the welcome Ed. Yes I get all that and TBH I don’t.let it get to me cos I can just stop. Just wondered what others think. On the point you’ve made about help / how to/ advice, I’ve already experienced this and it is really great to get advice and help from fellow enthusiasts.

Second what @Ed Webb has said.. I try to wave to as many fellow VW's as I see, even on otherside of duel carriage way.. the wife thinks is strange but becomes a game after a while, on long journeys..
2 points for a full wave back.
1 point for a rasied hand.
-1 point for a wrong prediction.

Winner, get first bottle of wine.

way to go @Fish I’ll try that next time we’re out and about. I need to think of something similar when I’m travelling alone

Old bus waves all time new bus not so much but I wave mainly for my kids it makes them feel they are a part of something special. My daughter who’s 3 wants a van like dads not a sports car like mum. End of day cost you nowt to be nice and if it brings someone a little bit of happiness like it does to my family it can’t be bad.

I thought the tractor trailer game was the way forward. First to spot one gets the point
1 point for a tractor or trailer
2 points for a tractor and trailer
3 points for a vintage.
Winner has most points end of the journey, I'm clearly a country bumpkin.

Think ours comes Eddie Stowbart spotting..
Same princible..
2p for complete truck n trailer
1p for truck
-1 for incorrect spot

not so much fun for the pheasants, deer, rabbits, hares, badgers, hedgehogs.......

Even better rounded off with Fish’s bottle of wine or twelve. Mmm badger and wine, salivating already.

We did a roundtrip of circa 500 miles this week and waved at loads of fellow T campervans but didn’t get a single wave back - normally get a few - disappointing - maybe the weather is to blame??!!

Been to north wales yesterday and south shropshire today, and have been doing nothing but returning waves to others campers everywhere, my arms ache:D they were waving before i could pull the trigger!
