Rock n roll bed mattress

Hi all, picking my van up on 3 Sep - which seems a lifetime away - and thinking is the bed comfortable enough to just have a quilt underneath or do folk use a mattress topper? Just thinking the less that needs storing the better…

I use a self inflating airbed from Outdoor revolution camp star model for rock n roll bed- has small corner at 45 degrees to profile the rear light pillar. I also got a Fiamma canvas box and secure it to my towbar basket. I use the fiamma storage for bedding and light objects, dirty washing, wet gear etc. for longer trips.

After 3 uncomfortable nights on our maiden voyage we needed a topper on ours, went for the duvalay cool version. Absolute game changer
This. Had a outdoor revolution blow up but it was just big, bulky and a pain to get the right firmness.

Duvalay cool top is the dream and I'd never go without it. Its also bulky but totally worth it for us.

Where do you store them in the van. Was going to put quilts and pillows in the area under the bed so not sure a topper would also fit under there?

I store ours in the same place as @soldas above. I’ve got a cargo net across the back to stop stuff falling out and can store the duvalay in it’s bag, pillows, levelling ramps & mat for outside the van door. We roll the duvet up with the duvalay so it can just be unrolled at bedtime.

Ah, there’s my problem - my rock and roll doesn’t have the bench at the rear like yours - its folds up flat at the back to the door so would be too bulky for me to use practically. I’ll try without and maybe use a thin self inflating type mattress if needed that will fold smaller.

5cm SIM at least, 10cm SIM for maximum comfort. Spent the first 3 trying various toppers, memory foam mattress. Been using SIM'S for the last 7 years

That looks a good option. I’ve just been to Dunm and they have a small double bed topper that folds into a manageable sized bag so looks like plenty of options.
I use a hand air pump to put extra air in it and also the pump has deflate option which allows the unit to be well flattened. I just sit it at the back door flat against the seat.

I am able to store my 5cm topper vertically. Might work in yours?
