Retro fit EHU

Does anyone have any novel suggestions to retro fit EHU cable into the van without removing seats etc?

Obviously wish I'd had the sense to run a mains cable when I ran the battery feed through the bulkhead but as we're not going to use EHU that much, I cant bring myself to rip the leisure electrics all back out again to remove the seats.

No real preference for where it comes into the van, we have U shaped furniture so can stash the consumer unit somewhere

Thanks in advance for any inspiration

I deliberated about EHU for my ‘day van’ occasional overnight van and go mainly off grid so EHU would be seldom used. I have a Lithium Powerbank instead which is screwed down in the van. I can charge it from the house when I go or from EHU if I need to when away. When I designed the van (I did 99% of conversion myself) I decided fitting in EHU would be a seldom used ‘faff’. (Just wouldn’t suit my use, that’s all ). Perhaps this may be a consideration for you too?

I think given my time over, I'd certainly be thinking about simplifying things with a powerbank, but the van is also used occasionally for work so we went inverter route. Like you just offsetting the faff of EHU for very occasional use/maybe topping up the leisure battery if we've been on the road for a while

Hiya I have a van furniture u shape set up, my 2 way consumer unit is fitted in the gap in rear right corner..the same but opposite space where the jack goes on left rear corner…it is screwed to side panel. The feed comes straight through the same hole as the normal light feed, there is a very handy earth point there too.
My hook up point is attached under bumper and it’s simple to drop orange feed cable to it as there is a route straight down behind the cover panel.
For a more elegant solution you can have consumer unit in same place but fit the transporter hq hidden flap thingy, and attach the hook up to body behind that..I have done both on previous vans 😀

Ours comes in the offside bottom corner under the bumper, is then routed through an existing grommet just same as Squiz describes .

Perfect! thanks that was one of the locations I had in mind, hadn't considered there being a grommet there already so that makes it much easier. Thanks again

Sounds like a plan. Where do you guys have your EHU sockets and would you have them there if you did it all over again? Really only need 1x double Id say

I have a double socket at front on side of cabinet to plug in battery charger for leisure battery, the other on the double i can plug anything else into such as the electric cooling fan etc. I have a single at rear which has 2 usb for phones etc I will take some pics of my set up standby...

Hopefully you can make out what I’m trying to show, the front double is close to battery charger behind front seat, as the consumer unit is on rhs of van it was very easy to run the cabling to it.

Spot on, yeh that makes perfect sense. Well worth adding a socket at the back. As you have, the front side of the kitchen unit is ideal too for a charger too, so that's all the inspiration I need thanks.

Incidentally, is that a diesel heater box on the front of the kitchen pod too?

Yep planar heater fitted underneath, ducting comes up into the van near the bottom of the d pillar where I have made its cover into a handy shelf :)
