Replacement headlights

Hi, I’ve recently picked up this model VW headlight 7e2.941.005.g (image below) to replace the standard set I have in 2018 startline transporter. The connection fits fine but it would appear the wrong combination of lights come on and the bulb out light is on the dash. Any ideas? Do they need coding to the vehicle? Thanks in advance!

The plugs probably need repinning. Look at the wiring colour on the original lights and see if they match the new wiring colours then check which colour wire goes to which pin and change accordingly.

Looks like you’ve got yourself a H7 headlamp there rather than the standard H4 one. Your best bet would be to try and get hold of another H7 for the other side. They are much, much better than the standard H4 headlights. They do need some simple coding so the dipped beam stays on with the main beam as on the vans that have them fitted as standard. You won’t be able to mix H4 and H7 headlamps without having a bulb out or burning out the H4 with both filaments on at once.

Thanks for the advice. I’ve picked up a pair, with the plan to fit both. Where would you recommend for coding to be done? Is something a VAG indie garage could do? Thanks.

Yes, a local indie could do it or it’s easily done with a Carista dongle (about £25 off Amazon). Worth having in the long run to check codes etc too. Unless they have brought the option into the main app software you will have to do it via the free beta version, details on the Carista website. There are no wiring changes needed, they are plug and play except the coding to have dipped stay on when main beam is used. There is a long thread on here titled something like H7 Upgrade with all the details.

As @Sackmycook posted in the other thread you need to post some pics of which lights you think are wrong. In the H4 the DRL is one of the 2 big lights whereas in your new H7 the DRL is in the small bar underneath along with the indicator. In the new H7 the two big lights are dipped and main beam seperately.
H4 are wired the same as H7. It's a straight swap. The only coding required is to keep dipped beam on when you turn main beam on.

I’ve swapped the lights and picked up a Carista. When the lights are turned on dipped this is what is on in the first image and then on full beam the second image. The dip switches off. I’ve had a look on the Carista app and I cannot see an option to turn on dipped with full beam. The LEDs at the bottom come on when in daytime running which I believe is correct. Any ideas greatly appreciated! Thanks.
