Hi all

Does anyone have any images of their front door seals once replaced?

Just doing my drivers door but it looks completely different to the OEM?
Seems to have a lot more rubber over the interior trim now / for example on B pillar) - or should this extra flap be under the trim?

I’ll get some images up soon to illustrate - just walking the dog…

I hate trim with a passion

Edit - trims are from vee dub

Okay update - seal is in but I can’t get the A pillar trim to clip back in properly and it’s stopping me from clicking in my air vent fully…. Any ideas?

okay so images galore for you.... A pillar trim doesn't seem to want to come across to sit alongside dash side.
And now side of heater wont fully clip in at the top..... So this whole section is now a bit janky. IMG_6600.webp

Also one last note is I've cut the door seal 2mm short - is this going to cause an issue with water ingress? Having a MARE today

Not sure about all the other stuff, but if it’s literally 2mm short then I’d be adjusting it so it’s not pushed quite so far into all the corners. Soon get 2mm back.
Nice one will try wiggle it down from the corner above if there is any kind of water ingress tomorrow. Got a pretty long drive so will find out

When I took my tailgate one off to do the carpet lining it had a gap when I put it back, so I reckon I jammed it into the corners tighter than the original factory fit, so I did just that, loosened the corners and that was three years ago.

I've got this exact problem after fitting aftermarket seals. Also the headliner doesn't sit properly along the new door seal. Did you manage to get yours sorted? I'm thinking of buying OEM ones and seeing if that solves the problem

So I took the AM seal out and put the OEM back in but it’s never gone back to perfect.

I think I've just cocked up a clip or something

I don’t get any ingress or issues so just leaving it till my next service and I’ll ask VW to sort it for me

I’ve just bought a front door seal and the profile is different to the one that is fitted already. I’ve queried it with the supplier and they assure me it will fit. Gonna try at the weekend but will be a lot of effort if it doesn’t fit

Have you looked at the whole seal ?
From memory the fronts change profile as they get around to the back of the door aperture.

Fitted one last week - was a pita as had to take A and B pillars off and door step - broke some of the trim clips (might be me being heavy handed) so might want to make sure you have some spares (two different types of pins) - I had to wait for delivery before I could finish it.
Mine had a metal insert running through the seal and this needs banging on with a rubber mallet, I had to position a few times and bang to get a good fit.

Have attached a photo of the one coming off, the new one looked the same.

Hi @Fintious maximus

Just be carful that it all fits and pushed in as much as it can be (I had to use a mallet to get a snug fit) before cutting surplus off or you will be left with a gap.

The other thing I under-estimated was how tough it was to cut as has a metal core - tried normal tin snips and they were not big enough or man enough so messed up the straight line.

Think I mentioned before about breaking trim clips doing the job and having to order some -if I had know would have ordered at same time as the seal and saved postage.

Yeah, noted the metal insert so hacksaw job. Will order some clips as I’m sure my lack of patience will see some snap😂
