Replaced T6 ABS Rear Right Sensor - 'incorrect component'

I had a whole bunch of abs/ tyre warning etc light appear and carista reported rear right abs sensor faulty. I replaced it with a vw oem WHT003856C. It is the same as the original part number except it has a c on the end. The old one had no revision letter. I thought this was just a revision number so would be fine. Now I am getting carista code C101D4A Right Rear ABS Wheel Speed Sensor - Incorrect Component Installed

Would replacing the nearside with the rev c one help
(i have it but haven't put it on yet. I only have street parking so its quite difficult so stopped after the side with the code hoping it would be sorted.

Any help very much appreciated.

Update: I tried fitting the other side but that just came up with the same code too.

Not sure how to proceed. Part number from the old sensor is 10.0711-5272.3 and WHT 003 856. It is branded Ate with a small VW stamp. The new sensor I tried, but that gives the incorrect component fault, was WHT003856C. I'm now at a loss as to which part to order. I cannot find the original part number anywhere without some sort of revision and since rev c didn't work why would nay other?

It's the wrong part (for MQB platforms & T6.1). The letter suffix doesn't always mean it's a newer version of the same thing. The latest revision of the part you need is WHT003856D

Is it a main dealer only part to ensure no more issues or am I safe getting something like:this
Any of them will be fine, you might even find a genuine new one on ebay for not a lot if you search the original part number.

If I was buying aftermarket then Bosch would be my choice or ATE who make the OEM part.

Thank you so much. So unlike WHT003856C, WHT003856D replaces WHT003856? It is a 2016 T6

Hi, did WHT003856D solve your problem. I’m going through some similar pain at the moment with ABS and the skidding warning lights staying illuminate.

The rear right sensor appeared as a fault on Carista previously (two moths ago) an independent garage that specialise in VW, swapped the sensor and the problem appeared to be solved for 800 miles. However the dreaded lights have re-appeared.

Mechanic pointed out today, the amount of rust around the alloy wheels at the rear. And said a build up of rust / dust on the sensor can cause the warning light to trigger. Which makes sense. I also must add that the van has had very little use the past 6 weeks.

I thought this was a great thread and a golden nugget from Phazer, just wondered if it worked out. Mine is also a 2016 T6. Thanks.

Hi Red8. Yes, WHT003856D solved my problem. Couple of things:

When I had the wrong part in there it didn't work at all and threw up mismatch codes. There wasn't anything intermittent about it (unlike when the fault was originally developing and the dash was lit up like Christmas) As you didn't have that problem then I would assume it was the correct part that was fitted but perhaps a low quality one that's degraded. Is it definitely the same corner thats reporting the problem on carista?

It is possible to reach the inner face of the sensor (where it protrudes very slightly through the alloy close to the hub) without taking the wheel off. It requires some dexterity and knowing where it it. I mention this though as it would allow you to reach in with a small brush or finger to clean any debris away that might be causing the problem. I did in fact swap mine without removing the wheels as it was easier for me given no off street parking.

These were the ones i bought (left and right):

Both Ate which was what was originally fitted.

Thank you very much for taking the time to share this information. It’s very helpful. 👍

Will do 👍 on a separate note the mechanic tried to scare me off using Carista, saying some of these devices from China are messing up electronic systems.

I purchased the Carista a few months ago and subscribed for a one month which has now expired.

I’m tempted to renew the subscription regardless of his comments because Carista seems so popular with other T6 owners on this site.

But it does make me a little concerned.

Have you heard of any issues.

Carista is fine, what he is referring to is the Chinese knock offs of the proper diagnostic tools like VCDS or ODIS, these tools cost hundreds to buy legitimately but there are loads of clone devices available cheap online and those can be dodgy
