ABS Speed sensor problems

Hi - I have replaced both rear wheel ABS sensors in the last 24 months due to sensor failure and warning lights coming on on the dashboard. Yesterday, same lights came on, cruise control stopped working and it looks like I am going to have replace one again. Is there any reason why it would fail so quickly? I thought these sensors were good for several thousand miles? I have done about 2,000 since the last replacement in Feb 2025. What else should I be checking? Work has been done by a local VW independent garage but I would like to ask them some relevant questions rather than just ask them to replace it. Thanks

Genuine parts get a 2 year warranty, but not sure if it covers parts if fitted by an independant garage - but worth checking.

Maybe they didn't clean the rust out of the port and its crushed, also a good chance that the sensor is ok and its a wiring problem or the tone ring.

I was told the wheel bearing can rust & then catch the ABS sensor. It apparently was the £350 cause on my rear N/S if the garage was to be believed. I’ve since started using another garage. Not that their work was substandard but prices had increased disproportionately.

Thanks all. Looks like the sensor that has failed is on one of the other wheels that haven’t had one replaced. Sod’s law but I guess they would all fail at a similar time. Anyway, it’s booked in to be replaced.
