Hello,
changing my rear bumper, I've prepared everything (dont get alot of time to diy these days with a new baby..). only thing i didnt manage was to disconnect the rear light cluster electric connector - what is the technique for these please?!

thnaks in advance..

Normally you squeeze in the side.

Can you post a photo to be sure?

i'll take a picture tonight if i dont manage. i only had a very brief look when i was preparing things..

there was a central clip like thing but i couldnt see how it'd easily come away.. i'll see!

If you mean removing the wires from the plug then you need to slide the locking mechanism sideways a few mm until it clicks (if you are not sure of position just slide it all the way and remove it) then the wires are ready to be extracted, you can do this with two paper clips straightened out a slid down either side of the crimp terminal to release the tabs but there are tools available for this that make it much easier ie Laser 3932 terminal tool

Note* dont yank the wires without the tabs released or the tabs bend inside the plug and will never come out !

@Pauly nope just to unclip the connector so i can put the light cluster down and not hold it in the air! makes it a bit tricky :D

Did you manage to price that cable & connector for the foglights btw - its just that snow is coming here and i'd like to get it done before :)

I think the type you are referring to is the same as shown in this video. Commonly used on VW group vehicles.

Others are more simple to remove by squeezing in the side clips.

thanks @Dilbert ! that was indeed the one! easy once we know how :) @Pauly is this the same type of plug that you'd be doing for me? if you need me to pay over the phone let me know!

The trick to unclipping that type of connector is to push it in very hard before attempting to unclip it - there is a silicon rubber waterproofing seal inside that tends to push the plug outwards causing the clip to bind.

Just came on to find a solution for a broken tab and my heart sank when I realised how impossible it seemed. Anyway, after a bit of headscratching I tried using an old dental pick
Anyway it worked first time. The image is with the intact tab on the other side just to show how I did it. It can go back in the other halfs dental kit now.
