Remove ply when fitting Kombi seats?

Hi all, looking at putting a 2+1 in my panel van which is pld and carpeted already. It had a single seat in the rear already but been advised you need the rubber mat to hide the brackets. The current seat has the brackets and sits on top of carpet so do I need to remove the ply for a 2+1 or not?
