Removal of 4WD seat brackets Kombi T6

Hi all,

New to the forum. I have a 2016 T6 Kombi van that im converting. I want to remove the rear seat brackets. Its a 3 seat bench (not 2+1). Only trouble is that my van is a 4WD so makes it more difficult to remove the brackets from underneath. My mechanic also said my exhaust clips are rusted so would need to remove n replace if we started the whole process which he said was going to cost a lot of money.

Has anyone removed the heads of the brackets with an angle grinder? I feel thats the easiest way to do rather than trying to sort it from underneath. Any help much appreciated!

It’s messy but yes it can be done. Just be aware that some of the nuts and remaining thread will fall onto the diesel tank and the undertrays so will need to be hooked out so they don’t fall off whilst going along and cause damage to other road users

Can't see it's that big of a job to remove properly, there's only a big old prop shaft in the way isn't there, would that make much difference?

I also wonder if the sides of the brackets could be cut off level with the floor rather than grinding the bolt heads off ...

Thanks @airhoguk and @StratosFearXX - my mechanic is very reluctant to do the removal due to the rust under the van which is stable but would need quite a few replacements overall and he doesn't think its worth the hassle.

Think I will be attempting cutting the heads off with an angle grinder tomorrow so wish me luck!
