Rear Wheel ABS Sensor Issue

Hi guys. I had intermediate fault with rear left sensor. ABS and traction light came on randomly. Sometimes straight away when started the van, sometimes while driving. It clear itself most times. I scanned van with OBD11 and it confirmed it was rear left ABS sensor. Done some live data and sensor would fluctuate even when van parked not moving e.g would still show that wheel doing 2-3km.
So picked new sensor Bremi from GSF and replaced this afternoon. The light came back on when driving. The error code i get C101C01 Implausible Signal. When I start van no faults only as soon as I start driving. Went to garage and been told it could be numerous thing, wheel bearing, wiring or ABS pump or could it be aftermarket sensor. Replacing sensor made fault static now. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Garage is correct. Next least expensive thing to replace is the wheel bearing - the ABS ring/teeth corrode which causes the issue. Get under the van and remove the cap on the back of the wheel bearing and check it's all clean before you do anything else

Not sure that the ring would create an implausible signal fault. I would disconnect the wiring and check the insulation / water ingress / physical damage.
If you have a good mechanic they’ll know where the connectors are and / or where to cut and splice.

I'd replace the other side and double check the plug is inserted fully in before going back to the garage. For the sake of 30mins, its worth a go.

I read (somewhere) that the wires/plug/socket corrosion can be a problem!

You could jump the cable to the opposite sensor with a couple of temporary wires and see if the problem remains, if so it’s the wiring harness.

Only ever use genuine sensors! Had a few fault Bosch ones over the years

Can’t remember the brand but defo not OEM!

I do, deal with them daily. However there was a batch of Bosch sensors that had the same fault as a ‘faulty’ sensor. Fitted genuine and the issue went immediately.

I briefly worked as an Engineering Modelmaker for a UK company that produced this crap. They are not engineered / designed to last, car manufacturers including the high end ones are only interested in shaving a few pence of the unit cost and the vehicle lasting the warranty period.
Take a mediocre design and then give the production / QC to agency staff who are paid min’ wage + 5% with zero incentive to do a good job…….

Thank you for reply guys. Dropped van this morning to get it tested. This morning van completely behaved differently. Yesterday ABS and Traction light on as soon as started driving over 5mph and stayed on. Fault was static. This morning started van, only ABS light stayed longer than usual and then went off. Drove it about 10 min doing various speeds. No warning. Then parked up half an hour idling after about 10 min ABS and Traction lights both on, same code C101C01 but this time intermediate. Cleared code and since light not back on, did 70mph still all clear.

Little update: So van went in for diagnostic. Spent all day in garage and still not got exact answer what is causing. On positive side, ABS pump was rulled out being issue. Answers I got could be dodgy new sensor or issue with wiring. But since picking van up 2 days ago. Fault only appeared once for couple minutes straight away after starting van without moving and then disappeared after driving leaving C101C01 code behind "Electrical error". Drove over 40 miles on motorway, and all clear. Strange one. Looks like need to find better specialist.

Sounds like it is detecting a fault with the sensor at initialisation, but works ok once it starts getting data.
I think the front and rear sensors on the same side are the same, so could swap them over and see if the fault follows the sensor (or just get a new OEM sensor)

They can only fault it if it’s there at the time of the test. As much as a fault code is good there’s always another step of diagnosis
