Rear lights not working on automatic

Yes, I appreciate all of your help.šŸ‘Š
I was intending to get a replacement switch, but thought I would post here in case someone in the past had the same problem.

I went back to Google AI and asked ā€œCan the light switch have both hardware & software faultsā€
What came back makes interesting reading.
As I have OBD11 Pro & never fully used it , I will give it a go , & follow the instructions.

I will post back with the results

Are you sure it’s not an aftermarket switch, I remember reading years ago that some aftermarkets switches don’t work well.
I’m not a big fan of the T6 switch or the lack of any daytime indication of light activation, so much pointless information available but safety critical stuff is lacking.

Yes , I checked. The rear lights came on automatically
The firm who installed the aftermarket, set the lights as Scandinavian DRL (installed 7 years ago Professionall) Rear lights would come on with front DRL in daylight.
Some how it’s reverted to VW Factory settings , that’s why I also have the dashboard error.
Will report back.
It’s 6.15 am coffee to finish, & a cycle ride

That sounds like a coding change then, rather than faulty hardware. What you have now sounds like standard VW setup.

See post #9 on this thread...

All sorted with the rear lights coming on with front DRL.
Just used the Scandinavian DRL one click app as I already had 203 credits, which I didn’t know I had.
Unfortunately the dashboard warning Light is going to take longer. I had to download the new version of the OBD11 app, & it wouldn’t accept my login details (which I know to be correct, cus can login to the website).
That is now in the hands of obd11 support.
Pleased about the lights now working, cus didn’t have to go and buy a new switch .

The reason for the dashboard ā€œlighting not workingā€ warning light is because the reversing led light in the rear right hand light cluster has failed.

Which I think means replacing the whole cluster, which means replacing both sides.
Unless someone knows different
Here is the cluster I had fitted in 2019

Put the originals back in if you've still got them, aftermarket front headlights are ok if they're an improvement over stock but who cares what the backside of the van looks like, working reversing lights apart.

I haven’t got the originals
To be honest, I’m pleased to have found what the two faults were.
I can put up with the dash warning light, & knowing when I reverse only one light showing.
