Rear EGR pipe

Hi all, my 2018 kombi is booked in next week to have a cracked rear EGR pipe replaced, am I right in thinking that VW updated the pipe and made it stronger? I’ve seen genuine ones costing about £30 and £160, want to make sure the mechanic puts the right one on, as the labour is the expensive bit, thanks in advance.

@leakywindows

I would have thought that by now all the OEM ones that are available are the "updated" version, like:

have a look inside the bonnet with an inspection lamp you can see the rear pipe right at the back of the engine, I could see the black soot out of a split in mine

Yep that’s the problem once I started the engine same smell and carefully put my hand round the pipe could feel air rushing through.
Thanks for you help.

When mine had gone I could feel the air too so my guess would be that pipe is split. Also was alot worse on a regen for some reason

Do you know how much it cost so I know the garage won’t have my pants pulled down.
Cheers

Parts were about 120 ex vat and an hour labour
My bill was 250 inc VAT

Appreciate your help.
Hopefully solve my coolant level problem I’m not a mechanic but hopefully the cracked pipe is causing the issue.
Thanks again

The cracked EGR pipe won’t be connected to the coolant loss.
There’s plenty of content on the Forum regarding coolant loss, have a Search with ‘coolant’
