Hi Folks,

I've had a look in downloads, and I can't seem to find anything around the procedure for replacing the Power Steering Pump on my T6.

Does anyone know of anywhere I can find this procedure myself.

(Long story short - A garage fitted a new rack and pump to my van, Two racks, and three subsequent pumps later and I still have pump issue...metal in system, and a lot of groaning at slow speeds. I suspect the garage that did the work didn't bleed it properly and got air trapped in the system).

Thanks!

I too am looking for this info... looking to replace my pump and want to make sure it's achievable.

Thanks

Two hours on the drive start to finish, with only basic tools. Ideal if you have a palm to help get you things and hold bits out the way.

Reading this, my first thought was whether they flushed the debris out or just pumped it round each subsequent replacement part?

I bought the 5litres from TPS, and it was apparently flushed.

The filter in the reservoir was heavily filled with swarf, so it could have been the latest pump disintegrating, or the mechanic didn’t.

At this point I’m inclined to just say this was a poor mechanic.

Hi. Today replaced engine oil and noticed fluid leak from steering pump. checked fluid level was below the cool level line. Is it worth changing it now ? Or just top it up and checking level more often.

This is how my saga started. I was able to keep it topped up until I got a first pump installed. I think the choice is totally up to you….but at some point it will need doing.

My steering rack looks fine, dry both sides. For now I want replace the steering fluid just in case if any metal bits in sistem. What pump did you put on?

I went for a Meyle pump.

Also installed a metallic filter on the return line too.

How's your steering going? Have you checked your fluid for metal recently? I used that filter but still have filings in the fluid after a flush.

Yes, fluids like it is from the bottle. No issues, done about 300 miles since changing

I was thinking last night.

Before installing the new pump, did you remove the reservoir and clean it out. The res has a filter, and mine had a load of swarf caught up here. We removed the reservoir on the last pump and cleaned it out thoroughly with Brake Cleaner. The metal might old from when the pump first started playing up.

Yes I installed a brand new one and also added the extra filter. I still get swarf in the fluid. I have had my rack sent off for a recondition. Will see what they report back either tomorrow or Thursday.
I have also ordered another inline filter to swap over. I am going to remove the one that's on it and cut it open to see if there is anything inside.

Good idea, I was planning on checking my filter at the next service. Interested to see what they say about the rack.

I will keep you posted! Strange thing happened yesterday. I decided to not be so light with the steering. I went lock to lock as fast as I could for around 30 seconds. The steering went lighter and the vibrations/noise was drastically reduced. I went for a drive and it felt close to no issue and great. When I stopped and reversed onto the drive, it went heavy again and vibrating like mad. I also have this strange thing where if I turn it to full lock clockwise, it gets about 1/4 away from the end and goes spongy. I can force it through the last bit but then when steering it back, it vibrates and makes a loud noise.
