I am about to install the Kiravans 12v control panel that has the separate 12v fuse panel unit. This unit needs connecting to the battery live and common earth. In the instructions it just says connect to the pos of the battery.
Should I put a maxi fuse in that pos cable near to the battery? Or is that not needed because the fuse box is.....well......fused?

You need a fuse at the source (battery) to protect the cable. The fuse should be rated lower than the cable.

There are some exceptions to this, usually if it's a very short cable run (like a few cm), and mechanically protected from damage etc.

Thanks. It’s well protected from damage and is a thick 110A (16mm2) cable but it’s 1m long. I’ve got everything out and the drivers seat in the house and was needing to put it back together. Better go and find myself a maxi fuse ASAP I guess.
