Happy Friday all.

My alloys are to be refurbed with one the alloys incurring damage from a pothole strike.

Called by. the Wheel Specialist this AM to let me know the alloy is cracked and cannot be repaired. Big shout to @The Van Cave and Chris for helping me out with a replacement alloy.

Don’t forget you can claim from your council if they maintain the road for pothole damage so long as the pothole is deeper than 4cm, the pothole I hit was 10cm deep.

Super annoying, although it could have been worse as I drove 155 miles on it.

Hey @Jlo reported it but all they seem to do these days is mark the bad ones with white spray paint.

The one that got me is marked with white paint to be fixed but alas nothing has been done.

It’s ridiculous the roads are so poor, you drive abroad and it’s like driving on glass

The marking with white paint is a way for them to avoid paying out claims while waiting to fix it. They will say we have highlighted it, and then it is your responsibility to avoid it.
Most councils have 28 days to fix the deep ones.

To be fair, here in N.Herts they are excellent at making repairs, albeit temporary ones.
I reported some last night, and this morning they were fixed.
This has been the case, the last few times I have reported them.

Doesn’t the white paint demonstrate that they knew of the pothole but hadn’t fixed it in a timely manner?

What irritates me is when they stick up a temporary “bumpy road” sign which does give them a way out.

Around our way, they're reasonably prompt at repairing reported potholes, but the quality of those repairs leaves a lot to be desired, I think they stand about 10 feet away from the hole, load up their shovel and then catapult the tarmac in the general direction of the hole... job done [very badly].

The thing is @Loz you can’t miss it as it’s that big and V when it pitch black you have no chance.

Although I only heard a part of it, the whole issue of potholes was discussed on the Nicky Campbell show on Radio 5 Live yesterday morning. One of the guests was a spokesman for a local council (didn't catch which one) and I was surprised when he said that although councils have the responsibility for pothole repairs, they didn't actually see a penny of the money collected from us all in road tax.

If it wasn't marked and had advance warning signs photograph the pothole and the damage and send the repair bill to the legal department of the council. Threaten them with the small claims court. There should have been advance warnings and probably guards round the hole to absolve them or the responsibility, roadworks guarding rules apply!
Daughter in law only warned our council that if she damaged her car in a developing hole she would hit them with a claim, that was enough to get the hole fixed the same day.

Not directly, but local government would get a whole lot less money from central government if it weren't for road taxes.

I heard that and was suprised that no one picked him up on the fact that there has been no such thing as road tax since 1937.

How’s that victim blaming?

..He’d have bounced over the hole?
Wasn't sure what you meant (which is why I framed my response as a question), but your comment could be read as "it wouldn't have happened if you'd had decent sized tyres"

I have claimed through the councils claim site with pictures of the pothole with a ruler in it showing the depth of it. No signs at all posted even so in the dark you have no chance. I wonder how many other motorists have damaged their wheels on that f..in hole.
